Position Summary:

We’re looking for a Director of Growth to generate and close new business, drive business growth, and manage accounts for Change Research and its nonpartisan unit, Embold Research, in areas including:

  • Political campaigns

  • Independent expenditures supporting Democrats

  • Democratic state parties and caucuses

  • Advocacy organizations

  • Consulting firms that work with the above

  • Private-sector and nonpartisan organizations whose work aligns with the company’s values 

 This is a chance to understand the polling and data needs of forward-thinking candidates and organizations, and to sell them on the many ways our innovative approach to polling, qualitative, and modeling can help solve their challenges. You will report to the Head of Growth Operations.

 

Your Core Responsibilities:

  • Skillfully build interest, and create and close business development and sales opportunities from within your own network and new prospects

  • Identify and reach out to past and prospective clients with thoughtful, personalized, politically astute communications

  • Build and maintain relationships with campaign managers, political directors, and others seeking to improve the way they communicate with their constituents in support of reaching sales targets

  • Understand company offerings and translate that knowledge into compelling sales pitches that solve client problems and win business

  • Meet and exceed annual performance metrics, with a focus on opportunities generated and proposals sent 

 

You will also have the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate with pollsters to manage accounts and see clients through to project conclusions, especially with an eye towards creating future opportunities

  • Assist in building a deep, nuanced understanding of our clientele and their problems; propose new and exciting ways to help drive our strategy

  • Inform sales and marketing collateral, pricing strategy, etc., especially with respect to new products and new lines of business 

  • Attend conferences to generate business and leads

 

About you:

You are an experienced professional with a network of contacts in politics and advocacy. You know what these organizations need and how they make decisions on whom to hire. You have stories to tell about ideas you’ve brought to life and projects you’ve built from the ground up.

  • 7-10 years experience in campaigns, research, public affairs, media relations, consulting, community relations or similar firms, with at least 2 years’ experience in sales and business or donor development roles 

  • Strong relationship builder, able to cultivate a strong network on behalf of the company

  • Able to travel occasionally to attend conferences to build relationships and generate business leads

  • Strong communicator, both speaking and written; experience writing proposals and grants is a plus

  • Team player with a thorough attention to detail who can track projects using various systems, customer relationship management software, and project management tools

  • Ability to think creatively, identify opportunities to solve problems for clients, and proactively anticipate client needs

  • Thrive in a data-driven environment and can strategically help potential and existing clients understand how to use polling and data to further their goals 

  • Self-motivated and entrepreneurial, comfortable with working in an early-stage environment

  • Avid interest in current events, public affairs and social issues with a passion about issues and causes that make a positive difference in the world

 

You might have:

An ideal candidate might have one or more of the following additional qualities: 

  • Experience using or selling voter targeting models

  • Knowledge of polling and research design best practices 

  • **Residence **in or near Washington, D.C. Although this is a fully remote position, for this role it’s an advantage to be located in the beltway and/or have strong relationships there. 

  • Experience in communications and marketing

 

Compensation and work environment:  

This is a full-time remote position with an annual salary range of $95,000 to $135,000, commensurate with experience and with the upper end of the salary range reserved for the candidates who demonstrate exceptional skills, experience, and alignment with the role.
