JOB DESCRIPTION

The Associate or Field Director is responsible for building and executing the campaign’s voter-contact operation: recruiting volunteers, managing canvassing and phone/text programs, setting daily and weekly turnout goals, and tracking whether the campaign is hitting its metrics. They also help coordinate with the campaign Field Director, Campaign Manager and Candidate so field work aligns with the overall strategy, budget, and message.

• Build the field plan for the LD, including walk lists, target universes, and contact goals.

• Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers, interns, and field staff.

• Run canvassing, phone banking, texting, event turnout, and other voter-contact programs.

• Track results, analyze performance, and adjust tactics when goals are not being met.

• Maintain regular reporting to campaign leadership and keep the team accountable.

Specific realities

In Legislative District, the job has a local emphasis on neighborhood-level outreach, community events, and persuasion of swing voters and turnout of supporters in a competitive district environment. A field director in a state legislative race often has to do this with lean staff, so the role is both strategic and hands on.

Daily work A typical day can include:

• Morning check-ins with staff and volunteers.

• Door-to-door canvassing launches and troubleshooting. We do have a CRM and contact list already.

• Updating voter contact numbers and target lists.

• Training new volunteers on scripts and turf.

• Coordinating with the candidate on events, messaging, and follow-up.
