Downstate Research Assistant, Democratic Party of Illinois

The Democratic Party of Illinois (DPI) is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of Downstate Research Assistant. The Downstate Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting the research, communications, and political teams with short and long-term projects and conducting field research downstate.

What Will You Do?

The Research Assistant will play a vital role in holding Illinois Republicans accountable during the 2026 campaign season. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

 

  • Monitoring Republican candidates’ schedules for events and updates

  • Capturing public remarks and statements  

  • Transcribing and analyzing remarks on tight deadlines

  • Preparing and delivering daily findings to senior staff

  • Other research tasks as assigned

 

Who Are You?

The ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter based in Downstate Illinois. If you are meticulous, engaged in the news cycle, and familiar with Illinois politics, this is the role for you.  

 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience volunteering or interning in government or campaign settings strongly preferred

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to keep up with the news cycle

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with internal staff and external stakeholders at all levels

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to project needs

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel within Illinois

  • Illinois ties

 

This is a full-time position with flexibility to start remotely, with the expectation of reporting to a Democratic Party of Illinois office in Springfield or elsewhere Downstate as the election cycle progresses.  

 

The salary for this role is $55,000-$60,000 a year and is commensurate with experience. DPI also

offers a generous benefits package.
