Downstate Research Assistant, Democratic Party of Illinois
The Democratic Party of Illinois (DPI) is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of Downstate Research Assistant. The Downstate Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting the research, communications, and political teams with short and long-term projects and conducting field research downstate.

What Will You Do?
The Research Assistant will play a vital role in holding Illinois Republicans accountable during the 2026 campaign season.
Responsibilities include:
Monitoring Republican candidates’ schedules for events and updates
Capturing public remarks and statements
Transcribing and analyzing remarks on tight deadlines
Preparing and delivering daily findings to senior staff
Other research tasks as assigned

Qualifications:
Experience volunteering or interning in government or campaign settings strongly preferred
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to keep up with the news cycle
Ability to effectively collaborate with internal staff and external stakeholders at all levels
Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to project needs
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel within Illinois
Illinois ties
This is a full-time position with flexibility to start remotely, with the expectation of reporting to a Democratic Party of Illinois office in Springfield or elsewhere Downstate as the election cycle progresses.
The salary for this role is $55,000-$60,000 a year and is commensurate with experience. DPI also
offers a generous benefits package.
