Position Overview
Blueprint NC seeks an experienced organizer, facilitator, and coalition-builder for the role of Election Protection Coordinator. This position will coordinate, support, facilitate and lead the statewide Blueprint NC Election Protection Table. The Table supports eight workgroups that are involved in county board of elections engagement, early voting advocacy, election administration, communications, poll presence, legal advocacy and more. The Election Protection coordinator will support these areas of work and operate both as a facilitator, but also a practitioner of the work alongside partners.
The Election Protection Coordinator reports to the Director of Mobilization and Election Protection, and will work closely with North Carolina’s leading democracy, voting rights, and election protection organizations.
For candidates that exceed the required skills and qualifications listed below, meet most or all the preferred skills and qualifications, we will also consider turning this role into a Senior Election Protection Coordinator.
The Ideal Candidate

You want to know how stuff works, in this case how North Carolina’s elections work; getting into the nitty gritty details of how the votes are counted and what could cause a voter to be turned away at the polls so you can protect their vote. When problems arise, you rise to the challenge and can navigate high-stress situations effectively. You value collaboration and are a team-player.
Responsibilities
**Coordinate partnership efforts: **Coordinate, support, and facilitate Blueprint NC’s Election Protection Table. Work alongside the 30+ participating partners and Blueprint NC leadership to lead the table.
Cultivate stakeholder relationships: Build and maintain relationships with all 30+ partner organizations at the table to be knowledgeable and informed of Election Protection work across the Blueprint NC partnership. Use this information to make recommendations and decisions on coalition priorities, meeting agendas, gaps, and opportunities.
Lead meeting facilitation: Develop agendas for Table Meetings and various other meetings through co-creation alongside various stakeholders. Co-creation will involve regular and ongoing communication with partner stakeholders, investment in those relationships, deference at the right moments, and a commitment the overall success of the team. With those agendas lead the facilitation of monthly Table Meetings and various other meetings in service to Blueprint NC partners’ election protection and election administration goals.
Support workgroup operations: Support the day-to-day work of the Election Protection Table’s eight active workgroups that are involved in county board of elections engagement, early voting advocacy, election administration, communications, poll presence, legal advocacy and more.
Engage in critical work: Play an active role in at least two of these workgroups made up of Blueprint NC partners, that often meet weekly, and move forward critical work.
The election protection coordinator will dig into various workgroups and be or become a practitioner themselves. Moving from simply coordinating the work, but to both coordinating the work but also doing the work themselves alongside partners.
Foster collaboration: Work closely with Blueprint NC partners at the Election Protection Table, looking for ways to support the work and individual partners, and jumping at the opportunity to fill gaps and take on responsibilities.
Manage table administration: Be responsible for the overall administration of the Election Protection Table and its 8 workgroups. Gather overall perspective and understanding of program from the leaders and members of the workgroups to identify successes, challenges, needs, and opportunities. As well as hold basic administrative tasks such as note taking, assigning note takers, and scheduling meetings.
Skills and Qualifications
Required
3-7 years of voting rights, advocacy, organizing, or nonprofit experience.
Respect for Blueprint NC partner organizations, local organizations, elections officials, and other leaders. An eagerness to learn from these organizations and their staff.
Team player with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills that is excited to organize, support, and facilitate a diverse coalition of over 30 Blueprint NC partners.
Experience organizing a diverse group of partners. Sees value in a diverse set of skills and approaches. Comfort with growth and onboarding new partners to the Election Protection Table.
Detail-oriented; a person who recognizes that the success of the whole depends on strong execution of even the smallest parts and remembering the minute details.
Eagerness to stay up to date on ongoing changes to Election Administration in North Carolina. Commitment to learning, skill building, and your own professional development in North Carolina’s Election Protection and Election Administration arena. Note: is not required that you come in with this knowledge, but you must be interested in building it, curious to learn, and ask questions.
Comfort with creating presentations in PowerPoint, Slides or Canva that distill complex information into easy-to-understand pieces of information; and strong communication skills to deliver those presentations to audiences at varying knowledge and skill levels.
Proficiency in Google Workspace (docs, sheets, slides) and Microsoft Office products; and a willingness to learn additional skills with these or other tools.
Ability to work independently and to drive and manage own workload; ability to manage several tasks and projects at the same time and prioritize work effectively by making and meeting team and individual goals.
Willingness to travel the state and work non-standard hours, including weekends particularly during the months around elections.
Experience working in Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian American, and other People of Color communities preferably in a campaign or organizing settings.
Commitment to supporting a movement for an anti-racist, inclusive democracy.
Commitment to equity and belonging and cross-cultural competency.
Preferred
The ideal candidate will carry themselves with a humbleness to be eager to learn from and seek the advice of the Blueprint NC partnership and its leaders. A partnership that has decades of Election Protection and Election Administration experience across it.
Familiarity with North Carolina election laws and administration of election systems. Ideal candidates will have some understanding of election administration or election protection.
Experience working with state and local government bodies and agencies, elected officials, and/or Board of Elections officials.
Experience and/or familiarity with working in coalition and/or within a table infrastructure.
Experience developing or combining/iterating upon existing partner programmatic narratives including budgets and packaging them into proposals that can go to foundations and donors to solicit resources.
Salary and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience and will range from $68,000 - $80,000 annually for the role of Election Protection Coordinator. The role of Senior Election Protection Coordinator will be commensurate with experience and set within Blueprint NC’s compensation policy. Benefits include retirement and medical, dental and vision insurance, internet stipend, wellness and home office stipends, and a generous PTO policy.
