SUMMARY
The Elections Department staffs and secures our elections while fighting against voter suppression. The department recruits and supports poll workers, coordinates with county officials, and runs HCDP’s voter protection and poll watching program. The position will report to the Voter Protection Director and last through November 2024.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have experience meeting deadlines, the ability to manage many tasks simultaneously, and willingness to work long hours (nights and weekends) when needed.
Candidates should be highly organized and detail oriented.
Candidates must have a desire to learn and a willingness to receive feedback.
Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate with diverse communities and leaders.
Candidates must be willing to become a super user of essential productivity (Google Apps, conference calls, Airtable, etc.) and voter contact (VAN) technologies.
Candidates must be able to function effectively and quickly under pressure.
Interest in law, social justice, or community organizing is a plus.
Based in, or willing to move to, Houston.
The ability to speak Spanish fluently is a plus.
Understands and supports the platform of the Democratic Party and HCDP’s goals, including a commitment to an inclusive workplace.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinating with Harris County Elections in all HCDP election matters, including election judge recruitment, training, and placement;
Working with the Voter Protection Director to support all voter protection efforts;
Accurate daily and weekly reporting of election staffing metrics;
Maintaining internal election worker lists;
Supporting election workers and volunteers;
Support other HCDP staff members as needed;
Perform other duties that advance HCDP’s goals and support the effective and collegial work of the Party and its stakeholders.
