JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Electoral Data Manager

LOCATION: State-wide (Michigan) - Hybrid Position 

ANNUAL COMPENSATION: $58,240

RELOCATION COSTS COVERED: $3,000

STARTING BONUS: $2,000

RETENTION BONUS: $4,000 (must remain on staff through Nov 18th, 2024) 

 

**POSITION DURATION: **This position is considered temporary and will conclude on November 18th, 2024. Position may be extended (subject to funding and circumstance) following the 2024 election. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

MI United / MI United Action is going to contact hundreds of thousands of voters in 2024 with strategic resolve and an ambitious voter contact strategy. If you are the type of person who loves looking at databases and has an interest in knowing all about how much data can influence strategy then we strongly encourage you to apply for this position.

 

We are looking for someone who can manage our electoral data work for the 2024 election cycle. This would consist of extensive time spent using the VAN to ensure our data collection methods are secure and accurate, to help flag any data irregularities, to produce quality lists for canvassers to use, and to provide regular updates on the progress of our canvassing campaign to help inform electoral strategy in 2024. 

 

You will have the opportunity to work with national data professionals to further develop your VAN skills and have access to training including SQL, coding, and even AI and google data visualization tools. Working with our Data Manager you will help ensure that all of our 2024 electoral work is accurate and preserved in creative and impactful presentations that can help shape the course of our entire program!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

As the Electoral Data Manager, your responsibilities will consist of providing support to our electoral canvassing program in various ways. You will report directly to the Movement Politics Director. 

 

Your typical week responsibilities could look similar to this:

  • Mapping the week’s electoral contact strategy by:

  • Creating and or updating walk lists for canvassers located throughout the state

  • Creating and or updating phone lists for predictive dialer campaigns

  • Creating and or updating p2p texting lists for electoral outreach

  • Creating and or updating lists for Relational Organizers to recruit volunteers from

  • Creating and or updating weekly reports for presentation

  • Attending Relational Organizers’ Virtual House Parties in a tech support role 

  • Ensuring data integrity by reviewing canvass results to flag anomalies or inconsistencies for the canvassing team

  • Attending and participating in MOCHA meetings or electoral strategy and planning meetings

Programmatic responsibilities would include:

  • Designing and implementing a system for tracking electoral volunteers

  • Designing and implementing a strategy utilizing survey questions and activist codes to track electoral engagement

  • Create reports detailing progress to goal

  • Develop and continue to improve training materials for staff to effectively use tools and platforms

  • Work with partner organizations to administer the VAN to all electoral staff including setting permissions and creating / deleting accounts

  • At the end of the election you will be transitioning new and newly activated leaders to a permanent organizer

  • Manage inventory of any electoral devices

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A commitment to MI United Action’s theory of change and a strong commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice and their intersections, both inside and outside the organization

  • A desire to learn and grow as a leader 

  • Previous VAN experience

  • A high energy, self starter capable of implementing creative solutions to problems

  • Not required, but would be advantages to success in this role: access to a reliable internet connection and experience with google sheets and microsoft excel, knowledge of elections, electoral process, and experience canvassing, organization and multitasking skills, a willingness to learn new tools, a drive toward optimization and efficiency

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees can be hybrid, but must be based in the State of Michigan. Team members are located throughout the state, with our headquarters being in Detroit. There will be in-person events, meetings, and activities. Our work schedule is standard business hours with flexibility. Evenings and weekends are occasionally required. There will be periodic travel around the state, with intermittent out-of-state travel.

  • Health Insurance and a $600/year Health Savings Account or monthly Health insurance stipend are available after 90 days of employment

  • Individual Retirement Account (IRA) after earning at least $5,000 during the previous two year

  • Internet and phone stipend of $125 a month

  • Paid time off accruing at 4.616 hours every 2 weeks (subject to black out dates around primary and general elections)

  • Paid sick time policy beginning at 16 hours and accruing up to 80 hours

  • Floating Holiday Policy

TRAINING
