John F. Butler is a former federal prosecutor, having served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia and as an Assistant Attorney General under Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring. A veteran of the U.S. Navy JAG Corps, he continues to serve as a Commander in the Navy Reserves Judiciary Unit. Now, he is running for Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney to build a safer, stronger Norfolk – because everyone deserves to feel safe, no matter who they are or where they come from.
The campaign is seeking a Field Director to manage his organizing program. Using a range of tactics, they will work to help build a field plan, persuade voters, mobilize communities, and recruit volunteers and interns across Norfolk.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of grassroots organizing, including experience working with base-building organizations and directing grassroots campaigns. The expected salary range for this position is $3,500-$4,500 per month through June. This is a full time position based in Norfolk, VA and will require a willingness to work non-traditional hours as needed.
Assist the Campaign Manager with building the field plan
Direct and coordinate the work of the campaign’s direct voter contact efforts
Recruit, train, and manage a diverse team of volunteers and interns across Norfolk to conduct direct voter contact
Coordinate and staff volunteer events including but not limited to in person canvasses, phone banks, and community meetings
Utilize a number of tactics and tools to hit daily and weekly metric goals
Other duties as assigned.
Experience in Norfolk or the Hampton Roads region is preferred
At least one cycle of organizing
Experience managing volunteers and building lasting relationships
Ready to adapt and be flexible during the campaign to meet team goals and objectives
Committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for people of diverse backgrounds
Ability to track and report data in a timely, consistent, and accurate manner
Reliable access to a car, phone, and laptop, with the ability to travel as needed
Capable of managing various projects and prioritizing overlapping deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Job Type: Full-time, with evening, weekend, and some holiday availability
Pay: $3,500-$4,500 per month through June. Salary commensurate with experience.
