May 15 to June 2, 2026 - Southern Minnesota (Rochester area)
We're hiring a Field Director to run the ground operation for a short-term ballot petition signature program in southern Minnesota. This is the senior on-the-ground role: you own the field operation, manage the canvasser crew, and are a primary decision-maker when things happen in real time.
This is be a great fit for a Field Organizer looking to step into management, a recent graduate with campaign or organizing experience, or anyone who's been around organizing and wants to develop their skills further. What matters most is that you're smart, scrappy, hardworking, responsible, and excited for a short term role with substantial responsibility.
What you'll do:
Own the day-to-day field operation for a single-district signature collection program
Manage and support a crew of ~10 canvassers
Evaluate, and assign high-traffic canvassing sites across the district
Oversee canvasser training and ensure quality standards are understood and maintained
Run the daily QC pipeline: review completed petition sheets, coordinate with counsel on validity, flag issues before they spread
Troubleshoot problems in real time
Pay:
$4,000 - $5,000 flat fee for the engagement (May 15 through June 2)
Incentive bonuses tied to program performance
Mileage reimbursement
You should apply if you:
Have some exposure to political campaigns, organizing, or grassroots field work. An internship, a super-volunteer role, a cycle as a Field Organizer, a student government campaign. You don't need to have run a program before, but you should know roughly what one looks like.
Are comfortable figuring things out on the fly. This is a fast-moving, short-timeline operation and the person in this role needs to solve problems as they arise.
Can keep a small team of short-term workers motivated, accountable, and showing up every day for two weeks.
Have a reliable vehicle and valid driver's license.
Preferred:
1+ cycle as a Field Organizer or comparable role
Familiarity with southern Minnesota (Rochester area and surrounding communities)
Experience with petition or signature-gathering work specifically
We encourage you to apply even if you're not certain you meet our preferred qualifications.
Requirements:
Must be eligible to work in the US
Must be 18+
Reliable vehicle and valid driver's license
Available May 15 through June 2 (start date is pre-window for setup and training)
About the role:
This project is run by Right Size Consulting. The team is small and well-connected in the ballot access and field operations space. We value people who do good work, and good work here tends to get noticed.
