Protect Our Rights (POR) is a ballot campaign committee formed by civil rights and reproductive and sexual health advocates to fight for the future of abortion access in the state by advancing a constitutional amendment for Nebraskans to vote on in November 2024. This ballot initiative would change the state constitution to allow for a Nebraskan’s right to legal abortion care up until fetal viability, with exceptions for the health and life of the mother beyond that point as determined by a medical provider.
Currently, Protect Our Rights is working to collect approximately 123,000 valid signatures from registered voters (10% of registered voters’ signatures) and signatures from 5% of voters in at least 38 counties by July 3, 2024. After this, we will pivot our efforts to educate about this initiative and turn out voters in November.
The shared goal of this work is to secure the highest level of abortion access for as many Nebraskans as possible based on data while building a movement for reproductive justice centering and defending those most impacted by abortion bans.
