JOB DESCRIPTION

We are searching for a Field Director to turn out thousands of young voters to shift the balance of power in NH! This role is an opportunity to join a growing, powerful movement of young people across NH, and expand the movement’s reach, membership, and capacity with NHYM’s hubs and distributed volunteer program. This is also an opportunity to plan and execute powerful campaigns, get creative with strategy and tactics, build relationships across the NH organizing community, and elect progressive champions. You will play a critical role in making NH a state that works for everyone.

New Hampshire Youth Movement is a movement of young people transforming our political system so it serves, and is led by, the people it’s left behind. We are an entirely youth-led, decentralized, intersectional, grassroots organization building and leveraging youth power in and outside of electoral organizing across NH.

 

 Our Ideal Candidate.

Our ideal candidate is an up-and-coming organizer who is ready to take a leadership role and put their skills to work building youth power that will transform NH’s political system. They have prior organizing experience (ideally youth organizing) and are ready to use their skills to make campaign decisions with a team, and design & manage organizing programs grounded in their vision. They are ready to mentor young leaders, ideally drawing from their own experience with successfully organizing young people. They are a people person, comfortable working with and leading teams, and have a motivational presence. They have a deep drive to win a better state and world. The ideal candidate is also a young person who currently lives in, or plans to move to, New Hampshire. 

 

 Responsibilities.

This position will be managed by the Organizing Director.

You will: 

  • Manage a team to run impactful field programs that reach tens-of-thousands of people and mobilize them in the 2024 election and beyond

  • Manage full-time and part-time staff, mentor them, and hold them accountable to goals

  • Lead a field program with tight logistics and systems to hit our goals and maximize our impact 

  • Track our progress to goals and systemize accountability 

  • Help with the back-end tech through EveryAction, VAN, Hubdialer, Spoke, etc 

  • Grow NHYM’s college campus program to deepen our base and build power 

  • Build relationships with and mentor campus leaders 

  • Support campus leaders to run creative and effective programs that get students involved, like rides to the polls, events, and local campaigns 

  • Grow NHYM’s membership and base 

  • Build a base through recruitment, leadership development, and relationship building 

  • Craft effective membership structures and leadership ladders 

  • Support in developing leaders through training with our staff and members

  • Craft & lead issue based campaigns with a team 

  • Cut compelling issues with input from members & leaders 

  • Set clear goals, strategies, and tactics to win 

  • Be a member of the NHYM director team, holding significant responsibility for the success of your work and the organization as a whole, as well as making a long-term commitment 

 

 Priority Skills, Attitudes, and Experiences.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice and their intersections, both inside and outside the organization

  • 2+ years organizing experience as a volunteer leader or staff member

  • An understanding of core community organizing tactics like recruitment, leadership development, community engagement, and direct action

  • Experience with core electoral organizing tactics like phone banking, door knocking, and mass texting

  • Ability to work closely in a team setting with consistent and clear communication

  • A sharp, highly organized approach, and ability to be self directed as needed

  • Desire to learn and grow as an organizer, manager, and leader

  • Willingness to relocate to NH if not already here

 

 Desired Skills, Attitudes, and Experiences. 

It would be nice if you have: 

  • Experience planning and managing field programs

  • Experience managing staff organizers or fellows 

  • Experience with EveryAction, VAN, HubDialer, Spoke, or similar digital organizing tools 

  • Experience specifically as a student organizer or volunteer leader (so you can better mentor students and volunteer leaders)

  • Experience planning and leading issue campaigns

  • Experience planning direct actions and events 

  • Knowledge of New Hampshire politics and its organizing ecosystem 

 

 Compensation and Commitment.

This is a full time position**(40 hours a week on average). **

 

This is a salaried position** with annual raises, and an end of year bonus.** Salary range for this role is $56,000 to $60,000. Salaries are determined using NHYM’s salary assessment process, which accounts for previous experience, time with the organization, and nature of the role to make additions to the base salary. 

This position has benefits including: paid time off including 17 holidays/year, 15 vacation days, and 10 personal days; full health, dental, and vision insurance (at little or no premium cost to you); mileage reimbursement; relocation assistance (if necessary) and access to a wellness fund. 

 

We are hoping for someone who can start in early May, but the start data could be flexible for the right candidate. 

 

Ideally, we are looking for someone to commit to at least two years of leadership in this role.
