JOB DESCRIPTION

Queen for Queens – New York State Assembly, District 32

Queen Johnson’s campaign for State Assembly in AD-32 is seeking an experienced and disciplined Field Director to build and execute a high-performing voter contact program in Southeast Queens.

This is a competitive Democratic primary in a district where turnout, density, and field execution will determine the outcome. The Field Director will be responsible for building a structured, data-driven operation capable of maximizing support in key Election Districts, turning out base voters, and expanding the electorate through relational and volunteer-driven organizing.

This role is central to winning the race.

Core Responsibilities

Field Strategy & Targeting

  • Design and implement a comprehensive field plan rooted in ED-level targeting and turnout modeling

  • Identify priority universes (base, persuasion, low-propensity Democrats)

  • Develop clear weekly voter contact and signature collection goals

Petitioning & Ballot Access

  • Lead and manage the campaign’s petition operation

  • Recruit and train volunteer petition carriers

  • Ensure signature collection exceeds required thresholds with geographic distribution strategy

  • Track petition metrics daily and manage quality control

Volunteer Recruitment & Management

  • Build a volunteer program from the ground up

  • Recruit, train, and manage canvassers, phone bankers, and interns

  • Create leadership ladders (captains, zone leads, building captains where applicable)

  • Maintain strong morale and accountability within the team

Voter Contact Operations

  • Oversee door-to-door canvassing in high-density areas such as Rochdale Village and other key AD-32 zones

  • Manage phone banking and text programs

  • Implement relational organizing strategies

  • Set and track weekly goals for conversations, IDs, and follow-ups

Data & VAN Management

  • Manage VAN/Votebuilder operations including turf cutting, list pulls, and data entry oversight

  • Ensure data accuracy and reporting consistency

  • Produce regular field reports with metrics and projections

Political & Community Coordination

  • Coordinate with the Campaign Manager and candidate to align targeting and messaging

  • Support outreach to local clubs, tenant leaders, block associations, and community organizations

  • Identify opportunities for coalition-based turnout

Early Vote & GOTV Program

  • Build and execute a robust early vote strategy

  • Develop GOTV universe and chase programs

  • Manage poll site operations and volunteer deployment for Election Day

Qualifications

  • At least one full campaign cycle in a field leadership or senior organizing role preferred

  • Strong understanding of Democratic primary turnout strategy

  • Experience with VAN/Votebuilder and data-driven organizing

  • Ability to manage volunteers in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends

  • Clear communication skills and strong operational discipline

  • Familiarity with Southeast Queens politics and high-density voter operations strongly preferred
