PA Stands Up is an independent, multiracial political organization by and for the many, with dues-paying members dedicated to winning a Pennsylvania that works for all of us. We are working people living across Pennsylvania’s cities, towns and rural areas. Our 4 chapters in 6 counties build grassroots leadership, fight for policies that work for working people, and elect candidates who represent our values.
PA Stands Up (PASU) seeks full time, temporary Field Organizers to lead a canvassing and community outreach program to grow our understanding of local issues, to shift political narratives, and to deepen our relationships within specific communities, over the course of at least 6 months with the potential to become salaried staff.
Beyond knocking doors, our Field Organizers will invest in people and place over an extended period of time. They will have daily political and strategic education where they will make meaning of what they’re hearing from their neighbors on the doors. They will complete our core curriculum to deepen understanding of topics such as self-interest, power, how to have effective one to ones, and storytelling. Field Organizers will also have daily call times and weekly one on ones, to follow up with people they talked to the day before, and invite them to come to local chapter events.
Rather than assigning different turf to canvassers each day or each week as is common practice in paid canvassing programs, every Field Organizer will be assigned to a cluster of specific strategic municipalities, and therefore will have knocked the same doors and talked to the same voters at least 8 times by November. Our Field Organizers will make meaning of their Neighbor to Neighbor conversations through daily debriefs, participate in script iteration, and learn to cut locally relevant and resonant issues.
Field Organizers must be based in Pennsylvania in one of our counties (Lackawanna, Luzerne, Northampton, Lehigh, Lancaster, Berks), and will require weeknight, and weekend hours.
Field Organizers report directly to PASU’s Field Director. PA Stands Up is a union shop, and as temporary hires, these positions are not within the union’s bargaining unit.
