JOB DESCRIPTION

Role Overview:

The Field Organizer is responsible for leading campaign field activities, and organization and administration of campaign offices and volunteers within their assigned region. This will be a full time position based in Michigan.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Get out in the field to lead by example on signature collection, site-based contact programs, and door knocking.

  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to conduct canvassing, phone banking, text banking, and relational organizing to meet ambitious voter contact goals.

  • Build and maintain strong neighborhood-based volunteer teams and local leaders capable of running regular field events with minimal supervision.

  • Develop and execute daily and weekly field plans to hit targets for doors knocked, calls made, conversations held, and signatures collected.

  • Plan, schedule, and lead in-person and virtual trainings for volunteers and interns on campaign messaging, canvassing best practices, and use of campaign tools.

  • Staff and manage a physical campaign office, including opening/closing procedures, scheduling, basic logistics, and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for volunteers.

  • Maintain accurate and timely data entry for all voter contact and volunteer activities in VAN and other campaign systems, and use reports to adjust organizing plans.

  • Represent the campaign at community meetings, local Democratic Party events, and coalition gatherings to build relationships and expand the volunteer base.

  • Coordinate closely with the Organizing Team to share best practices, troubleshoot challenges, and execute campaign-wide field priorities.

  • Support campaign events such as town halls, rallies, press events, and surrogate visits, including turnout, logistics, and follow‑up.

  • Administration of any physical campaign offices within the assigned region.

Qualifications (Required):

  • At least one cycle of organizing, campaign, or comparable leadership experience (e.g., managing volunteers, staff, or student organizations).

  • Must have transportation to attend events as needed

  • Proficiency with Excel and Google Drive

  • Willingness to work irregular hours including some nights and weekends.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to learn new skills and take on new challenges, with a desire to learn and a willingness to ask questions

  • Ability to balance between competing priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment while maintaining exceptional organization and attention to detail

  • Commitment to electing Abdul El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate

  • Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence – the awareness, knowledge and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant and productive ways

  • Personal and professional commitment to promoting and investing in cross-cultural skills and awareness related to individuals from broad backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability

 

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Previous experience as a Field Organizer, Regional Organizer, or office director on an electoral or issue campaign.

  • Experience opening, staffing, and managing a field office or volunteer hub, including supervising interns or volunteers.

  • Experience setting and meeting metric-based goals in a field, organizing, or sales environment.

  • Experience directly managing/staffing a principal is a significant plus

  • Previous experience working in Michigan is a significant plus

 

This is a full-time position with the Abdul for Senate campaign, and is expected to conclude in August 2026, with potential to extend to November 2026. Field Organizer will be paid a salary of $25/hr to start, commensurate with experience.
