Finance Director - Prospective Candidate for Maine Governor
A prospective candidate for Maine Governor, currently in the exploratory committee phase, is seeking a Finance Director to join our team and manage our fundraising operation for the 2026 cycle.
In the event that the campaign kicks off in earnest, the Finance Director would work directly with the candidate, campaign manager, and consulting team to build and execute a comprehensive finance plan that includes aggressive call time, events, and small dollar fundraising. They would be responsible for developing the fundraising plan, cultivating donors, managing call time, and ensuring the successful planning and execution of host-led events.
This job would be full-time and located in-person in Maine.
Responsibilities:
Planning & Organization: Build a realistic finance plan; set weekly/monthly/quarterly targets; track and update cash-flow documents; align with the campaign manager/treasurer
Events: Plan and execute fundraising events start to finish; coordinate any finance travel, local donor meetings, and events with the campaign team; coordinate with hosts, finance committee members, and bundlers
Call Time Management: Manage call-time schedule, staff call time as required; prepare call sheets and briefings, log notes and outcomes; follow up on all pledges
Donor Research & Cultivation: Identify prospects, expand the donor base, and maintain relationships via calls, emails, meetings; manage pledges and timely follow-up/thank-yous
Grassroots Fundraising: Work with the campaign team to maximize small dollar donor opportunities
Reporting & Compliance: Work with the campaign compliance firm to ensure accurate recordkeeping through daily processing and weekly reporting; handle deposits and reconciliations, and uphold compliance by adhering to federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining all necessary documentation
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
1-3 cycles of campaign, political, or nonprofit fundraising experience
Experience working directly with a candidate or principal
A strong understanding of fundraising best practices and donor stewardship
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
Strong communication skills, both internal and external
Proficiency in campaign finance software
Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, and to travel in-state and nationally as needed
Access to cell phone, laptop, a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a Finance Director, Deputy Finance Director, or Call Time Manager on multiple political campaigns
Ties to Maine/New England are a plus
Compensation:$7,000-$9,000 per month, plus health insurance stipend.
