JOB DESCRIPTION

Finance Director

Bushra Amiwala for Congress – IL-09

Location: (Chicago/North Shore)

Start Date: ASAP | Full-Time | Through November 2026

About the Campaign:

Bushra Amiwala is a Gen Z trailblazer running to represent Illinois’ 9th Congressional District. A former Skokie school board member, tech professional, and the first Pakistani-American woman elected to public office in the U.S., Bushra is running a bold, people-powered campaign centered on economic justice, reproductive rights, climate action, and access to education. We're building a values-driven team to match the scale and energy of this historic race, and we need a savvy Finance Director to lead our fundraising strategy.

About the Role:

We’re looking for an experienced, entrepreneurial ** Finance Director** to design and execute a winning fundraising operation. You’ll work closely with the Candidate and Campaign Manager to build out call time, donor cultivation plans, event strategy, and compliance systems. This is a top-tier campaign with national potential, and we’re seeking someone with the hustle and strategic mind to scale our finance program to meet the moment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the campaign’s finance and fundraising strategy

  • Build and maintain donor database and tracking systems (NGP, ActBlue, etc.)

  • Manage call time: prep, staffing, follow-up, and list building

  • Plan and execute fundraising events (virtual, small-dollar, and high-dollar)

  • Cultivate relationships with individual donors, PACs, bundlers, and allies

  • Write donor communications including emails, call time memos, event invites, and thank-you notes

  • Track progress toward fundraising goals and produce regular finance reports

  • Ensure FEC compliance in coordination with campaign treasurer or compliance vendor

  • Identify new donor opportunities across Chicagoland, the national progressive space, and the South Asian and Gen Z donor networks

What We’re Looking For:

  • 3–5+ years of experience in campaign finance, political fundraising, or development

  • Familiarity with NGP, ActBlue, and donor research tools

  • Organized, persistent, and detail-oriented—with a talent for building relationships

  • Experience managing call time for a candidate or principal

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, startup-style campaign environment

  • Deep alignment with the campaign’s values and mission

Bonus if you have:

  • Chicago-area donor network or connections in progressive national giving circles

  • Experience fundraising in competitive federal races

  • Comfort with high-net-worth donor engagement and fundraising events

  • Familiarity with compliance rules and reporting requirements

Compensation:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Benefits included. Travel support as needed.
