Financial Specialist
The Georgia Conservation Voters family of organizations includes the Georgia Conservation Voters, Inc., the Georgia Conservation Voters Education Fund, and the Georgia Conservation Voters Action Fund. The Georgia Conservation Voters' (GCV) mission is to advocate for public policies that advance a more just and sustainable future, campaign for candidates who prioritize climate and environmental justice, and hold elected officials accountable for their actions and votes. The Georgia Conservation Voters Education Fund (GCVEF) mobilizes Georgians to advance climate and environmental justice through education, advocacy, and other forms of civic engagement. The Georgia Conservation Voters Action Fund (GCVAF) campaigns for climate champions. These complementary organizations hold Georgia legislators and policymakers accountable for their actions on climate and environmental justice.
We seek a Finance Specialist to maintain and organize current financial information, prepare financial reports to assist with budgeting and forecasting, manage accounts payable, receivable, and other expenses, file taxes, conduct internal audits, and perform other financial duties as assigned.
Utilize QuickBooks accounting software to process transactions by assigning budget categories, program codes, tags, vendors, donors, and other transaction information.
Compile financial key performance indicator reports.
Use financial information in QuickBooks to file campaign contributions and expense reports with the Georgia Campaign Finance Commission.
Work with accountants, the Executive Director, and the HR & Operations Director to prepare and file 990s and other tax forms.
Work with accountants, the Executive Director, and the HR & Operations Director to conduct voluntary and involuntary audits.
Work with the accountant to reconcile bank accounts for GCV and all related entities.
Collaborate with the accountant and HR & Operations director to calculate reimbursements in accordance with the organization’s cost-sharing agreements.
Work with the Executive Director and HR & Operations Director to conduct the organization’s 501(h) election.
Maintain accurate records and track grant-related information, including grant financial documentation.
Process expense requests from staff and contractors.
Manage contractor and vendor payments.
Process reimbursement requests from staff and contractors.
Renew annual business registration for the state of Georgia.
Education: A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Certifications such as a certified public accountant (CPA) or a chartered financial analyst (CFA) are ideal.
Proficient in using office software, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, and QuickBooks. Experience with database management systems is desirable.
Industry knowledge: A solid understanding of administrative procedures and accounting principles is a plus, as is familiarity with the IRS rules regarding 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations.
Project management skills: Ability to quickly learn GCVEF’s programs, campaigns, and priority issues to manage financial accounting and reporting effectively. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines.
Communication skills: Excellent verbal, reading, and writing skills are critical for this position. The qualified candidate can draft professional correspondence necessary for reporting, advising, and collaborating with others. The ideal candidate can handle confidential information with discretion and maintain high professionalism. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
Technical skills: Experience with QuickBooks or other equivalent accounting software is required. Ideal candidates also have experience with Asana (project management system). The candidate must demonstrate a high proficiency with Google Workspace applications (ex., Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Groups, etc.) and Zoom.
Ability to travel: Must be willing to travel occasionally for events, staff retreats, other meetings, and professional development opportunities; expect frequent local travel (1-2 times per week), in-state at least 1-2 times every six months, and out-of-state at least once a year.

The salary range for this position is posted at the top of this job description. The salary is commensurate with similarly situated nonprofit advocacy organizations, and the final amount will depend on experience and qualifications.
