POSITION DESCRIPTION 

A progressive candidate is seeking a Fundraising Director (FD) for a high-energy grassroots campaign for the New York State Senate. This role has the power to pass more progressive, effective, and innovative policies and funding streams to communities throughout Queens, NYC, and New York State, and reshape the balance of power and community voice in Albany. To help us get there, we are seeking a passionate, hardworking, and experienced Fundraising Director.

 

The Fundraising Director provides high-level leadership and support for the candidate and will oversee/manage the fundraising team (small-dollar and large-dollar team leads), and collaborate with the Campaign Manager, candidate communications associate, and other roles as needed. They will ensure that the candidate is set up for success and that the campaign generates the necessary financial resources to hit key benchmarks, grow, and thrive.

 

The FD is responsible for developing and helping execute the overall fundraising strategy for our grassroots campaign for a State Senate office, in partnership with the candidate, campaign team, and kitchen cabinet. This role includes leading the fundraising team, advising on all events, communications as needed, and community relations. He/she/they will be the head of the Fundraising Team. 

 

The ideal candidate possesses outstanding management and leadership abilities, effective communication skills, experience in campaign fundraising, and a deep understanding of New York/Queens policy and politics. The position is an excellent opportunity to hone leadership skills while working with a diverse and dynamic team of leaders, making a real impact locally and statewide. 

 

KEY COMPETENCIES + DUTIES: 

  • Help lead a team of passionate, energetic campaign staff and fundraising volunteers across multiple **** neighborhoods, integrating neighborhood and county work with state-wide partners

  • Serve as a key thought partner with the campaign manager and lead the fundraising strategy in partnership with the candidate

  • Lead the campaign launch process with clear fundraising recommendations and criteria 

  • Support in the development of the fundraising plan and timeline, in collaboration with the Candidate, Campaign Manager, Communications Team, and kitchen cabinet

  • Work with the Candidate to advise on the long-term vision of the campaign, strategies to improve our work and organization, and help ensure staff are set up for success in terms of community integration

  • Successfully plan and execute fundraising events, communications, and digital outreach 

  • Help to budget, report, and advise on fundraising progress in collaboration with the Treasurer, to ensure that campaign expenses do not exceed available funds

  • Travel throughout Queens, NYC, and to related political events

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • At least 2+ years of experience in campaign fundraising work  

  • At least one year of full-time city, state, or Congressional campaign experience for a progressive candidate, ideally in New York 

  • Outstanding management, leadership, and communications skills, plus political acumen

  • Exceptional attention to detail, especially with data/spreadsheets, event management, communications/copy, and campaign materials

  • Comprehensive understanding of related legal requirements and documentation needs, while maintaining meticulous and timely records for every single donation

  • Experience managing staff, including supervising at least one full-time staff member

  • Strong understanding of the political process, and how organizing, policy, and modern communications (social and earned media) can work together to move a campaign

  • Outstanding small-dollar and digital fundraising ability, with a track record of success

  • Solutions-oriented attitude, dedicated work ethic, passion for the mission

  • Experience with young adult engagement or related activity 

  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging

 

  • Experience with launching and growing a small grassroots campaign preferred

  • Familiarity with state matching funds requirements strongly preferred

 

 

Full-time in-person FD preferred from campaign launch through completion, but open to discussion for other arrangements.

Dates: Immediately through June 24th, 2026 Primary. The general election is in November 2026.

Open to fundraising firms, but in-house preferred.
