JOB TITLE: Field Director / Campaign Coordinator

DESCRIPTION:

Young, charismatic, progressive Black Democratic candidate and current respected government official seeks ** FIELD DIRECTOR / CAMPAIGN COORDINATOR** to finish the final two months of an insurgent campaign to dislodge a do-nothing Republican from the Pennsylvania State House.

This role will encompass all of the traditional responsibilities of a Field Director, and will join a robust Kitchen Cabinet as the only paid staffperson (hence the Campaign Coordinator sub-role; the FD/CC will serve as the metronome for campaign, volunteer and candidate activities day-to-day).  Candidate will work directly with Candidate and Kitchen Cabinet (who have extensive local organizing experience, having repeatedly won insurgent campaigns in a Republican-majority district since the early 2010s) to quickly plan out a robust volunteer operation, paid outreach, ideal fundraising process and all other coordinative elements of a campaign that aims to latch on to the momentum given by President Trump’s low approval rating and progressive Democratic victories nationwide over the past two years.

The ideal candidate will have organizing experience in a college town setting, the resources of which have been organized to great effect over the past decade and a half by many of the organizers who will be volunteering.  The FD/CC should be a steady hand, possessing creativity, optimism, discipline and resilience, who aims to help a left-trending but conservative district beat the odds.  In so doing, they will transition themselves from a highly skilled FD into someone who is prepared to assume the full mantle of campaign management on a larger scale next cycle.

Training, mentorship and advice will be available from experienced campaign staffers who have previously worked in the same turf, but the ideal candidate MUST be an experienced Field Organizer / Director who easily builds consensus, creates enthusiastic local buy-in through specific systems and context, executes independently and creates a welcoming, energetic, inclusive environment that stimulates volunteer growth.  Local team members are ready to help; they will need direction, coordination and investment from the head of the campaign.  (There are already point-people in place for fundraising and social media; a high priority is working with them to coordinate a broader, volunteer- and GOTV-focused strategy.)

The ideal candidate thrives under pressure, is able to take personal time on a predictable schedule without derailing operations, and fosters leadership and ownership under themselves to devolve responsibility and empower growth as GOTV approaches.

The money for this position is already raised, and will not be touched by any other department.  $6,000 per month is guaranteed, and can be paid monthly or biweekly at the discretion of the FD/CC.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to relocate under own power to a college town in rural Western Pennsylvania within a week of being hired.  (This job requires presence, leadership and the fostering of volunteers in groups, and cannot be done remotely after the first few transition days.)

• Several cycles of experience, or one cycle of very impressive experience, in a formal, paid campaign staffer role with a demonstrated aptitude for volunteer recruitment and mobilization.

• A sober but upbeat working style, able to make an actionable plan for victory and to use that plan to mobilize available volunteers en masse.

• A sense of fun and a proactive attitude.  The candidate is a smart, wonderful and fun person with deep roots in the community; the FD / CC, as front-line contact with all volunteers and KC members, will be responsible for instilling an upbeat, positive and mutually respectful culture top-down, in order to reflect these strengths to the general public.

• Proficiency with VoteBuilder and with management of all basic Field operations, such as phonebanks, textbanks, confirm calls, canvasses, kickoff meetings etc.

• The ability to quickly earn trust through listening and engagement in a small-town environment.

• Experience running elections that feature college students as an integral part of the voter and volunteer base is a huge plus.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

• If relocating from more than a one-hour drive away, supporter housing can be provided.

• $6k / month is guaranteed (funds have been raised and are not allocable to anything else).
