Job description

VFP is seeking a Graphic Designer to join our growing Creative Team. The Graphic Designer has a deep passion for digital content creation, designing on-brand graphics, and telling visual stories that focus on elections, voter engagement, and mobilization. They will report to our Creative Director, and work with our Creative Director and Video Producer to create a variety of content for VFP’s digital advocacy work.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong design skills and a drive to inspire dynamic ideas that connect with all types of audiences.

 

This is a limited term position, with an end date of December 31, 2024.

 

As the Graphic Designer you will:

  • Become an expert on VFP’s brand by studying the brand guide and immersing yourself in our visual system. You will help to shape and refine the VFP brand across our digital advertising program, website, social media channels, and more.

  • Manage the process of visualizing and creating a variety of digital graphics such as illustrations, logos, icons, layouts, and photos for digital ads.

  • Create design sketches and rough drafts and present ideas to the Creative Director and Director of Digital Programs.

  • Test various designs across our platforms.

  • Create graphics for videos and other media.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in professional graphic design work.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop (After Effects and other Adobe Suite knowledge is a bonus).

  • A proven track record of managing design projects and creating compelling work.

  • Highly motivated and doesn’t need a ton of oversight.

  • Able to juggle multiple projects at once and operate under deadline pressure.

  • Ability to collaborate across multiple teams with varying needs.

  • Commitment to the mission and vision of VFP and an understanding of its place in the non-partisan voter registration and mobilization industry.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Ability to develop and adhere to project timelines.

  • Strong communication skills, allowing the development of healthy working relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Interest in continuous improvement and professional development, including staying up-to-date on best practices and platform changes.

  • Energized to work in a start-up organization.

  • Enthusiasm for Voter Formation Project’s mission and vision.

 

The nice-to-haves:

  • Experience working in the political advocacy and non-profit industry

  • Experience working to engage communities of color through creative content

  • Experience working in After Effects or Premiere

 

Compensation, benefits, and culture

Starting salary for the Graphic Designer is $72,500 per year. 

 

The Voter Formation Project does not negotiate starting salaries. All Voter Formation Project employees are formally reviewed twice annually, in December and July, for performance and compensation adjustments. New employees who are onboarded more than four months in advance of the next compensation review will receive off-cycle compensation review to ensure equitable alignment within their compensation band.

Voter Formation Project operates on the four-day work week. In general, we work from Monday to Thursday and are closed on Fridays (holiday schedules may shift our work week). Our four days of work are standard eight-hour work days; we do not work a schedule of four ten-hour days. We work primarily on Eastern Standard Time (EST) but are open to folks working in other timezones.
