Job Description: Head of Technology
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Technology to lead the development of our digital infrastructure and integration across relevant departments including Editorial, Data Analytics, Data Engineering, and Web Development. In addition, this role is crucial for driving the development and execution of products that enhance our content delivery, audience engagement & insights, and AI implementation that drives optimization of business processes and operations.
Responsibilities
Lead the data departments, analytics & engineering, ensuring efficient data operations, accurate data collection, analysis, business reporting and actionable insights.
Oversee Courier’s digital infrastructure and ensure efficient integration across the following systems:
ESP (Sailthru)
Wordpress
Google Analytics
Google Tag Manager
Social Media Platforms
Big Query
Catalist Voter File
Facebook Lead Ads
Oversee the website development department ensuring all site operations are seamless and optimized for receiving traffic, providing an un-interrupted user experience and efficiently collecting leads while incorporating the latest technologies and trends.
Oversee the internal management of Courier’s tech stack & tooling.
Collaborate closely with Courier Growth & Editorial Departments in digital product development that align with Courier Newsroom's strategic business goals.
Oversee cyber security for Courier Newsroom’s digital infrastructure.
Manage technology budgets, resource allocation, and project prioritization.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to keep the organization at the forefront of digital media technology.
The ideal candidate will have some of the following:
Minimum of 8 years of experience in technology roles with at least 5 years in leadership positions overseeing technology teams.
Proven experience in digital product development, preferably in the media, news, or content distribution sectors.
Exceptional leadership skills and the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
Excellent project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead projects to completion on time and within budget.
Knowledge of the latest in digital technology, software development practices, and IT infrastructure.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture and minute details.
Experience leading teams in GCP structure
Background in SQL, Python languages
Experience in working with a remote first team
Experience with or knowledge of the following:
Programming languages and operating systems
Enterprise backup and recovery procedures
System performance-monitoring tools
Active directories
Virtualization, HTTP traffic, content delivery, and caching.
Experience in overseeing management of hosted web servers and databases.
In-depth familiarity with web analytics software and search engine optimization administration tools (GTM,GA4,GAM, Search Console).
Knowledge of network security protocols.
Capable of troubleshooting technical issues.
Relevant certifications such as ITIL, PMP, AWS and/or CISSP.
Ability to think tactically and translate business objectives into technology initiatives.
Proficient in risk mitigation and data security of digital assets.
Familiarity with Agile and DevOps methodologies for software development/delivery.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior executives.
Proven ability to navigate complex technology landscapes and align technology initiatives with business objectives.
