Tl;dr: We are looking for organizers for roles currently based in Forsyth County (Winston-Salem) ready to work our biggest and most ambitious yet union drive. Priority deadline August 15. Also hiring for an exciting campaign in Edgecombe, NC! [Apply here]
The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) is looking for organizers to join our team! NCAE is the wall to wall union for NC Public School workers, organizing teachers, instructional assistants, cafeteria workers, transportation workers, and more.
Over the last few years, union staff, leadership, and rank and file members at NCAE have been working a strategic plan to rapidly grow our union and shift the culture of the organization away from service and towards organizing and fighting. We are building majority unions across the state to win local fights and build towards the statewide worker power we will need to break the Republican majority in the legislature. In the past two years, we have reached majority union membership density in Durham, Asheville, and Edgecombe, and have won union recognition and a formal seat at the table this past school year for Durham and Asheville. In Durham, workers grew their union by 2,000 workers and secured unprecedented wins in their budget fight. The wins in these fighting locals are advancing public sector union rights in ways that will have implications across the South.
The next domino is Forsyth County. FCAE leaders are hungry to take on this challenge and we need a strong team of dedicated organizers to help ensure that this campaign succeeds. Our newest majority local in Edgecombe will be continuing their campaign for a meet and confer policy this year. Experienced organizers are encouraged to apply, as well as people with a passion for public education who are ready to work hard and excited to learn labor organizing fundamentals.
You can play a key role in building worker power to defend and transform North Carolina’s public schools as well as building the crucial movement of public sector unionism in the South. ** If you know someone who might be interested, please share this opportunity! If you’re someone looking to make an impact on NC’s political landscape, please apply!**
