JOB DESCRIPTION

Tl;dr: We are looking for organizers for roles currently based in (or commutable to) Chatham and Edgecombe Counties ready to work on ambitious and historic union recognition campaigns. Priority deadline August 16th. Apply here

The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) is looking for organizers to join our team! NCAE is the wall to wall union for NC Public School workers, organizing teachers, instructional assistants, cafeteria workers, transportation workers, and more.

Over the last few years, union staff, leadership, and rank and file members at NCAE have been working a strategic plan to rapidly grow our union and shift the culture of the organization away from service and towards organizing and fighting. A couple years ago we started building momentum on the growth front, continued to significantly move union activity towards militant issue fights, and laid the groundwork for some big experiments.

This past year was our biggest year in terms of campaign wins and member growth yet. We hit majority union density in two school districts, a first for NCAE 21st century history. Many of you may have seen the remarkable milestones achieved in Durham—growing the union local by 2,000 members, securing unprecedented wins in the budget fight, and advancing public sector union rights in ways that will have implications across the South.

Now, we're gearing up to take on new challenges. We are starting two new campaigns in Chatham and Edgecombe counties, and we need dedicated organizers to help us make it happen!

Experienced organizers are encouraged to apply, as well as people with a passion for public education who are ready to work hard and excited to learn labor organizing fundamentals.

You can play a key role in building worker power to defend and transform North Carolina’s public schools as well as building the crucial movement of public sector unionism in the South. ** If you know someone who might be interested, please share this opportunity! If you’re someone looking to make an impact on NC’s political landscape, please apply!**
