The People's Alliance (PA) has been a champion for progressive community action in Durham since its founding in 1976. Today, the organization centers member-led advocacy for local policies in areas including education, economic justice, racial equity, housing, and environmental justice.
The Alliance comprises three legally separate organizational entities: The People's Alliance, a 501(c)(4); The People's Alliance Fund, a 501(c)(3); and the People's Alliance PAC, a political action committee.
The People's Alliance is hiring a ** Lead Coordinator** to be the operational lead of the organization: the staff person who keeps PA's day-to-day running, executes the board's strategic priorities, manages member communications, supports policy advocacy work, and holds the systems that make member-led action possible.
This is an operational role with execution authority. The PA Board sets the strategic direction of the organization, leads fundraising, and determines advocacy priorities together with the PA membership. The Lead Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and executing PA’s key programs and operations, including: the year-end member vote on policy and budget priorities, coalition partner relationships, PA communications, and member engagement.
The role is most successful when the board, action teams, members, and partners can rely on PA's coordinator to follow through promptly, communicate clearly, facilitate cohesion across the PA infrastructure, and keep the work moving forward. The organization is driven by member priorities and the work is shaped by emerging policy opportunities; the Coordinator role requires flexibility and nimbleness to respond to evolving priorities and opportunities.
This position is housed in the People's Alliance 501(c)(4) under a formal cost-share with the People's Alliance Fund (c3) and the People's Alliance PAC. The position will provide discrete and compliant support across all three entities.
