American Experiments is a cultural communications and production house dedicated to reaching young, news-avoidant audiences across the new American media landscape. Since 2020, we have organized and grown a network of creators, celebrities, podcasters, and other communicators who deliver persuasive, progressive, and pro-democratic content into our audience’s newsfeeds every day. We believe that all actions, political or otherwise, are downstream from cultural attitudes, and focusing on cultural-first media will empower our movement to rebuild a winning coalition.
We're seeking a sharp, versatile ** Messaging & Research Manager** with approximately** 4–6 years of experience** in research, communications, or a related field to serve as a critical resource across our communications programs. This role is ideal for someone who is equally comfortable in the data and in the narrative; someone who can synthesize quantitative and qualitative research with rigor and translate it into clear, actionable guidance that communicators of all backgrounds can actually use.
Produce a weekly current events newsletter for our network of communicators, synthesizing relevant news, messaging guidance, and issue context into a resource that is timely, accessible, and immediately useful.
Develop ad hoc message briefs, research memos, and talking point documents to support team members working across podcasts, content, elected officials, and advocacy programs.
Parse and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data — including polling, message testing, focus groups, and audience research — and translate findings into clear, practical communications guidance.
Monitor the news cycle, policy landscape, and cultural conversation to identify relevant developments and proactively surface insights for the team.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure research products are tailored to the format, audience, and platform context of each program.
Brief communicator partners on materials and messaging alongside the corresponding relationship managers as needed.
Maintain organized systems for research assets, messaging libraries, and recurring deliverables.
Monitor and compile messaging guidance, research, and communications resources produced by partner organizations and allied groups across the progressive ecosystem — attending relevant briefings, tracking public outputs, and ensuring the team has timely access to the best work happening across the movement.
Integrate AI-assisted research and writing tools into workflows to improve speed and output quality, while maintaining editorial rigor and accuracy.
4–6 years of experience in communications, research, policy, journalism, or a related field — candidates with backgrounds in either research or communications are strongly encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret quantitative and qualitative research, including polling data, message testing results, and focus group findings.
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, and compelling materials for diverse audiences.
Strong news literacy and the ability to quickly assess the relevance and implications of current events for communications strategy.
Solid familiarity with and understanding of the progressive media landscape: the players, what they talk about, and how they communicate with their audiences.
Highly organized and self-directed — able to manage recurring deliverables and ad hoc requests simultaneously without close supervision.
Familiarity with progressive communications frameworks, message discipline, and the political and advocacy landscape.
Comfort using AI-assisted tools for research synthesis, drafting, and workflow efficiency.
Experience in political, progressive, nonprofit, or advocacy spaces.
Collaborative, respectful, proactive, and excited to build power for the progressive movement.
