Job Summary: The Miami-Dade Advocacy & Outreach Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing SAVE’s mission to protect and promote LGBTQ+ rights in Broward/Miami-Dade County. This individual will manage field operations, expand SAVE’s advocacy efforts, and contribute to governmental affairs strategies. The Manager will engage directly with local government officials, state legislators, and community stakeholders, focusing on building community outreach and influence. This role also includes overseeing field programs, tracking legislation, and assisting with SAVE’s research and policy internship program, as well as organizing travel logistics for the legislative session.
Location: Miami Dade County FL, with some travel to Tallahassee
Key Responsibilities
Field Program & Advocacy Strategy
Lead and coordinate field activities in Miami-Dade County to implement advocacy strategies supporting SAVE’s policy goals.
Recruit, train, and mobilize volunteers to strengthen Miami-Dade-based outreach efforts.
Develop and execute a strategic field plan to expand SAVE’s visibility and influence.
Community Engagement & Outreach Expansion
Build and maintain relationships with local government officials, community leaders, and other advocacy organizations.
Represent SAVE at political and community events, fostering relationships with politicians and key stakeholders to enhance SAVE’s advocacy footprint.
Spearhead public engagement efforts to ensure the organization’s presence and relevance in Broward County.
Governmental Affairs & Legislative Engagement
Establish and nurture relationships with public officials, local lawmakers, and state legislative liaisons to further LGBTQ+ rights.
Monitor and track relevant legislation, providing analysis and policy recommendations to SAVE’s leadership.
Advocate for SAVE’s policy initiatives (e.g., Municipal Equality Index in Miami-Dade) by lobbying local governments year-round to advance LGBTQ+ rights and ensure community representation.
Lobby members of the Florida State Legislature, with a focus on key advocacy during legislative sessions in Tallahassee, to support SAVE’s statewide policy agenda.
Organize and coordinate travel logistics for staff and volunteers during the legislative session.
Internship Program Management
Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field (preferred).
3-5 years of experience in legislative affairs, lobbying, or public policy, with a focus on LGBTQ+ or civil rights advocacy.
Experience in grassroots organizing and field coordination.
In-depth understanding of Florida’s legislative process and key political stakeholders.
Strong leadership and team management skills, particularly in volunteer or intern settings.
Excellent communication, networking, and public speaking abilities.
Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously and thriving in high-pressure environments.
Willingness to travel frequently between Miami, Tallahassee, and Broward County.
Experience working with state legislatures, particularly in Florida.
Familiarity with LGBTQ+ advocacy and a demonstrated passion for advancing LGBTQ+ rights.
Expertise in policy research, legislative drafting, and coalition-building.
