Description:

Blue Wave America is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a full-time Regional Field Director for the 2024 election cycle, leading the effort to drive turnout in the rural counties of the Upper Peninsula spanning from Ontonagon to Chippewa.

The Regional Field Director will recruit, train, and manage a team of full-time organizers, part-time organizers, and volunteers to hit ambitious voter contact goals. In addition, the Regional Field Director will execute Blue Wave America’s relational organizing and events program. This program will drive daily relational voter contact, relational capacity building, and volunteer-led community events.

The Regional Field Director will report directly to the Michigan State Director. This is a hybrid position requiring in-person travel, which could be up to 50-75%, throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Candidates with prior personal or professional experience in rural U.P. of  Michigan are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Compensation begins at $4,500 per month, paid in installments twice monthly, in addition to 100% employer-paid medical insurance. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. This full-time, temporary position is based in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and ends on November 30, 2024.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Hire, train, and manage a team of Field Organizers and Deputy Field Organizers.

  • Set vigorous, realistic organizer goals for direct voter contact and volunteer recruitment, and coach and manage organizers to hit base building, volunteer infrastructure, and voter contact goals.

  • Build a streamlined system for managing phone call, text, and door campaigns, and manage high-energy, high-output phone banks, text banks, canvasses, and other outreach events such as days of action.

  • Develop appropriate metrics and manage systems of accountability for staff and volunteers to track progress.

  • Maintain and execute rigorous and efficient volunteer systems, including daily recruitment, onboarding, training, and escalation. 

  • Manage a team to build a volunteer base to implement and execute Blue Wave America’s overall relational organizing plan. 

  • Set and define goals for a relational organizing program in conjunction with the State Director.

  • Coach organizers to build strong relationships with relational volunteers and volunteer event hosts, have strong 1:1s, and facilitate relational voter contact.

  • Other duties as needed by the State Director to support the election cycle.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience training, supporting, and managing staff in an electoral or community engagement capacity. Candidates with rural organizing experience are strongly encouraged to apply. 

  • Proficiency using VAN and other field organizing tools, including predictive dialers, peer-to-peer texting platforms, Mobilize, etc.

  • Proven track record of building and maintaining volunteer-based organizations.

  • At least two cycles of political campaign experience; at least 1 cycle of management experience of a team of 4+ entry-level staff preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in community organizing, with a strong preference for candidates who have managed teams or led volunteer-driven initiatives.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Goals-oriented and self-disciplined; able to meet tight deadlines and multitask.

  • No task is too small, you are a team player willing to roll up your sleeves!

  • Prior budgetary experience preferred.

  • Must possess a working computer/laptop, smart phone, and a valid driver's license along with reliable access to a car.

  • Ability to work campaign hours including evenings and weekends, and willing to be flexible as responsibilities grow over time.

  • Strong commitment to electing Democrats up and down the ballot. 

  • Flexibility to respond to the changing nature of the political landscape.

  • Familiarity with the current political landscape in a region, including personalities, parties, and processes, is a plus. 

  • Applicants must be willing to live in or move to the region.
