Campaigning: At least 3 years of experience with campus or off-campus campaigning focused on building power for progressive causes.
Campus organizing: Familiarity and/or experience organizing with the college student climate movement or allied campus progressive movements in the US.
Training: Experience leading in-person and online trainings. Familiarity with Training For Change and the experiential learning cycle is appreciated but not expected.
Coaching: Experience with coaching, development, or mentorship in an organizing setting. Experience identifying and developing leaders.
Environmental justice approach: A strong commitment to Environmental Justice principles. Experience and ability working with traditionally marginalized communities.
Midwest based: Must be located or willing to relocate to the Midwest US. Currently, CCN defines a region as anywhere in the radius that an organizer can drive to within 5 hours. The Midwest region is currently centered around Kansas City and includes parts of: KS, NE, IA, IL, MO, OK, and AR. We are open to redefining the bounds of the CCN Midwest Region according to the candidate’s location.
Access to a car: Having access to a car will be a helpful tool for campus visits and regional organizing. Not having access to a car will not disqualify you from applying.
The Midwest Regional Organizer is responsible for recruiting and supporting CCN member groups in the Midwest region. Support for member groups in this region includes coaching calls, campus visits, leading in-person trainings, and building connectivity between campuses in the region.
The Regional Organizer will also take on some responsibilities that support national CCN work. The scope of this work will be defined based on the candidate’s ability, experience, and interest.
Recruiting and supporting CCN members in the Midwest.
Work to identify and onboard new member groups in the region.
Hold relationships with 10–20 campus groups in the region, including close relationships with 5–10 member groups including regular support conversations and campus visits, and staying in contact with an additional 10 member groups.
Co-lead at least 2–3 in-person campus trainings per semester.
Support member groups to run campaigns that build power.
Support member groups to remain active in the CCN community of practice.
Foster the development of individual leaders in the region.
Identify strong leaders and support them to move up the CCN ladder of engagement.
Build connectivity across the student movement ecology in the region. Tactics for building regional connectivity are at the discretion of the CCN Organizer team, but may include: pre-semester gatherings, cross-campus art, and other forms of peer support.
Foster relationships with off-campus organizations in the region. Develop and maintain strong relationships with non-university organizing projects, statewide student support networks, and potential allied groups to provide resources, physical spaces, and long-term power-building structures for students.
Identify opportunities for graduating students to participate in regional organizing efforts.
The scope of this work will be defined based on the candidate’s ability, experience, and interest. This could include supporting CCN’s daily operations, crafting curriculum for CCN’s trainings, supporting logistics for in-person events, supervising CCN coordinators (student volunteers), or other projects related to the CCN coalition.
Attend weekly staff meetings, and other staff coordination check-ins as needed.
Remain informed on CCN’s national programming and its relationship to organizing efforts in the Midwest.
Support with miscellaneous CCN team projects (e.g., outreach efforts for coalition calls).

High-cost city bonus: This position is eligible for a high-cost city bonus of $4,665/year.

Expected travel:~2 in-person Midwest campus visits per month + 3–4 national trips per year.
Paid time off: CCN offers unlimited PTO for staff, with a minimum of 15 PTO days over the course of a calendar year.
Holidays: In addition to PTO, CCN recognizes 10 paid holidays and a 2-week office closure every year.
