Abdul for Senate is seeking talented candidates to work as a Muslim Outreach Coordinator for the 2026 election cycle. We are looking for passionate, hardworking individuals who are committed to our mission of electing Abdul El-Sayed our next U.S. Senator.
Role Overview:
The Muslim Outreach Coordinator is responsible for overseeing comprehensive community organization and leadership outreach, volunteer engagement, and voter contact activities specifically focused on Michigan’s Muslim community. This will be a full time position based in Ann Arbor, MI, although there is flexibility with remote work and a relocation timeline. This position offers compensation in the form of a monthly salary and healthcare benefits.
Responsibilities:
Maintain relationships with points of contact at local mosques and calendar of major events across all sub-communities
Recruit volunteers from mosques, youth groups, MSAs, and other Muslim community organizations
Coordinate large-scale voter registration and absentee voter registration programs
Facilitate connections within the Muslim media and influencer ecosystem, especially in Southeast Michigan
Think and work beyond the mosque to engage Muslim individuals in other social and communal spaces
Work closely with our Organizing Managers to identify Muslim voters and use traditional voter contact and relational tools to engage
Work with local Muslim speakers and leaders to create surrogate network
Coordinate candidate visits to every large mosque in Michigan
Work across other departments as needed to fulfil the campaign’s big picture goals
Qualifications (Required):
At least three years of experience working in the Muslim civic, political, or community organization sectors
Established relationships with local imams, mosque boards, and community leaders, or a proven ability to build trust quickly within faith-based communities
Cultural fluency with diverse Muslim communities (e.g., Arab, South Asian, African American, African, Latino Muslim communities) and awareness that Muslim communities are not monolithic
Strong familiarity with Islamic religious practices and calendars, including Ramadan, Eid, Jummah prayers, and major religious observances, and ability to plan outreach accordingly
Must have transportation to attend events as needed
Proficiency with Excel and Google Drive
Willingness to work irregular hours including some nights and weekends.
Superior written and verbal communication skills
Ability to learn new skills and take on new challenges, with a desire to learn and a willingness to ask questions
Ability to balance between competing priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment while maintaining exceptional organization and attention to detail
Commitment to electing Abdul El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate
Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence – the awareness, knowledge and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant and productive ways
Personal and professional commitment to promoting and investing in cross-cultural skills and awareness related to individuals from broad backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability
Qualifications (Preferred):
Conversational or fluent in Arabic, Urdu, Bangla or Wolof
Experience managing volunteers or junior staff from within faith communities
Prior work securing grasstops endorsements from faith leaders or institutions
Experience working on faith-based outreach in electoral, nonprofit, labor, or advocacy settings, particularly in voter engagement, turnout, or issue-based campaigns
