JOB DESCRIPTION

The Position

The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) seeks a talented, dedicated, and experienced communications strategist, narrative storyteller, brand manager, and content creator responsible for creating captivating narratives, stories, and messages that carries the voice of North Carolina public school educators, students and community allies through traditional media and social media outlets. 

 

The Narrative and Content Strategist will report to the Communications Director and work with the NCAE Executive Leadership team to develop and implement a compelling brand identity and image with NCAE members, potential members, parents, community, and decision makers across North Carolina.

  DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Develop narrative and content strategy that aligns with the NCAE strategic plan to be used by NCAE’s spokespeople and departmental teams as a guide when communicating and developing messages. Work with the Communications Director to develop a content calendar.

  • Craft captivating brand stories, write long-and-short form narratives, create new video and graphic content, and optimize existing content to shape brand image and increase organic reach and engagement through social media platforms. Provide opportunities for social media organizers to engage potential members, parents, and communities.

  • Develop engaging strategies to resonate with our target audience(s) and communicate our brand's values, mission, unique selling points, and positions on education policy, public schools, and current events.

  • Utilize research and data to help drive decision-making.

  • Work with the Communications Director and Press Secretary to develop media pitches, press releases, statements, and other public-facing materials.

  • Create content to be shared on NCAE’s news and social media channels, including member success stories and policy/legislative updates.

  • Work with Press Secretary and Digital Communications Coordinator to monitor media and social media coverage to understand how the organization is presented and received to evaluate our narrative strategy’s effectiveness. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in communications marketing, brand management or narrative development. Experience in labor organizing, or comparable environments in electoral, community, or movement organizing preferred. 

  • Experience creating and implementing strategic communications campaigns and develop narratives to deliver effective messages to drive brand strategy.

  • Experience building creative content for social media or other digital communications channels.

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • A strong understanding of principles of effective communication to members, potential members, and the public.

  • A deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in the work and demonstrable experience centering the voice and experiences of marginalized communities.

  • A demonstrated ability to develop content and messaging for different audiences, social groups and organizing targets.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and project manage, prioritize, and execute to meet frequent and tight deadlines with keen attention to detail.

  • A track record as an excellent collaborator and team player.

  • A willingness to work nights and weekends when needed.

  • Familiarity with public education and public education issues.

 

**Location: **Position is based at NCAE headquarters in Raleigh. May require infrequent travel around the state.

**Compensation: **The annual salary range for this position is between Step 0 $61,681 and Step 5 $71,159.00 of the current NCAE/NCSO professional staff union contract depending on relevant experience plus benefits.
