Position Description

1K Women Strong The National Organizing Director (NOD) is a member of the leadership team and is responsible for the design, execution and the overall management of field plans at the state, regional and local levels. At the start of a campaign, the NOD determines the structure, strategy, goals and deliverables needed to implement the plan in the designated locations. The NOD reports to the Chief Program Officer. The NOD is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and managing State Organizing Directors and designated staff and volunteers in the organizing department. This position is expected to model and uphold the vision, mission and core values of the organization.

Responsibilities include

  • Hire, and manage organizing staff and volunteers.

  • Develop and execute a national field plan that includes specific metrics for each state and field area as well as a tracking system for reporting data and people movement.

  • Create and implement strategies and systems that lead areas to successfully meet daily and weekly organizing metrics.

  • Build and maintain relationships with coordinating community organizations, coalitions, and community leaders to boost voter education and turnout.

  • Communicate clear priorities, needs, and expectations up and down the chain.

  • Work with the designated staff to troubleshoot and solve issues that may arise.

  • Build a membership/supporter base and move members up the ladder of engagement.

  • Participate in campaign framing and messaging, including collaborating on talking points, press releases, reports, social media, and other communications materials as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • At least two cycles of multi-state field management on issues or electoral campaigns, including at least one cycle managing field staff.

  • Proven experience managing staff in various political, coalition or issues based campaigns.

  • Must also be able to work well under pressure and when overseeing several programs at once while maintaining a passion for accuracy.

  • Extensive experience with Votebuilder and Every Action.

  • Ability to problem solve effectively and creatively.

  • Multitasking skills and strong verbal and written communication skills are important in this position.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication and listening skills and positive attitude that will inspire and motivate performance.

  • Familiarity and comfort with working with diverse groups who demonstrate an interest in building connections with community activists and advocacy groups.

  • Familiarity with local, state and national outreach, political and issue advocacy campaigns or initiatives.

  • Ability to build connections and drive outcomes for the mutual benefit of the organization.

  • A self-starter and has the ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure.

  • Must be flexible and adaptable to unexpected changes that may include performing additional tasks as deemed necessary by the leadership team.
