JOB DESCRIPTION

North Carolina is home to over 560,000 college students across over 100 college campuses, including 10 HBCUs. Young voters have the numbers and the power to shape the future of our state through leadership in the electoral process. And in a state like North Carolina, even a small increase in student voter turnout could shape our state for years to come.

That’s why we’re building ** Rally NC** - an entrepreneurial and innovative operation to protect and expand democracy by elevating youth leadership across the state in order to empower thousands of college students to take control of their futures, get organized, and vote in the 2024 elections. We're done waiting for change. We're ready to make it happen.

Rally NC is part of a collection of state-based organizations working to mobilize student voters through creative, student-driven tactics. The North Carolina organization will build on work done by similar teams in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

What Will You Do?

Campus Organizers will be based on key campuses across North Carolina to build organizations that engage students and build a massive operation to register and turn out tens of thousands of North Carolina students in Fall 2024. The role will start March 1, 2024.

Campus Organizers will be responsible for recruiting and training a team of student fellows and volunteers to run campaigns on campus, both around issues, but critically later this year to register and turn students out to vote early and on Election Day. You will work to build a diverse coalition of students on campus from Student Government to Sororities & Fraternities to the Political Science Department and everyone in between to create the largest student turnout effort each campus has ever seen.

You will be asked to get creative, drive important decisions, and build a huge team on campus and across the state that empowers young people for many elections to come. Once your team is built you’ll work to reach every student on campus, making announcements in their classrooms, tabling in the student center, and knocking on their dorms.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Draft plans for your campus program in the upcoming 2024 general election and assist in shaping the overall vision for the organization.

  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of paid fellows and volunteers who will mobilize their peers and create a movement on campus.

  • Conduct direct voter contact and list-building through dorm-storming, high traffic canvassing, relational organizing, and more.

  • Build relationships as necessary with a coalition of administrators, student leaders, and student organizations on a campus.

  • Engage with Boards of Elections to advocate for early voting sites on campus, and other policies that make it easier for students to vote.

  • Create and implement fun and engaging events to educate students about the upcoming elections and empower them to organize their peers.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Who Are You?

As a successful candidate for this job, you will:

  • Have a passion for inspiring and empowering young people to get involved in the political process.

  • Be excited to think outside the box and to ideate and innovate to find the most exciting and effective get out the vote tactics.

  • Be eager to talk to as many students as possible (and be comfortable talking to _a lot of _strangers/potential volunteers).

  • Be scrappy and flexible; able to manage several tasks simultaneously.

  • Be a self-starter, exceptionally well-organized, and have strong time management skills.

  • Have a driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

  • Be able to work weekends and irregular hours as required.

  • Be located near or be willing to relocate to one of our focus campuses.

  • Previous experience organizing for an electoral campaign is a plus; previous experience with campus organizing is a bigger plus. Neither are required.

Job Details: The compensation for this role will start at $4200/month and includes benefits. This is a full time role with a target start date of March 1, 2024. We will be hiring additional cohorts with later start dates. Spring 2024 graduates are encouraged to apply now for early and mid-Summer start dates.

Locations: Campus Organizers that start in March 2024 will be based in the following cities: Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Durham, Greensboro, Greenville, Charlotte, and Boone. If you don’t see a city on this list that you are interested in working in, please still apply, we will be expanding to additional cities later this year.

To Apply: Please apply using this short application. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

We are an equal opportunity employer and we strongly encourage Black, indigenous, people of color, women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and others who identify with underrepresented groups to apply.
