Rural West Communities Fund

Position Title: Operations Associate

Location: Fully remote. 

Reports to: Managing Director

Hours per week (average): 40

Overtime Status: Exempt

 

Rural West Project is a multi-cycle, multi-modal initiative to build economic prosperity, civic infrastructure, and policy talent in low-population states in the Mountain West. 

 

Position Summary

The Operations Associate will support the Managing Director and Rural West Project (RWP) Board of Directors with organization administration as the project scales revenue and activities and expands geographically. The new staff member will join a small team of staff and consultants working to create a more civically engaged and prosperous western United States. In addition to core operational responsibilities, the Operations Director will have the opportunity to learn more about effective programmatic work.

In addition to working for Rural West Communities Fund, the individual will also contribute to RWST’s 501(c)(4) counterpart Rural West Action Fund. 

 

Responsibilities and Tasks 

  • Manage project contracting and subgranting processes, including liaising with RWST consultants, grantees, the fiscal sponsor organizations, and RWP MD to keep agreements on track. 

  • Maintain project budget and manage financial statements. 

  • Check-ins several times a week with RWP MD, biweekly with RWP advisory board members, and at least monthly with fiscal sponsor account team members. 

  • Update project dashboard; create donor and partner-facing weekly updates and other stakeholder engagement tools and resources.

  • Development and/or maintenance of RWP project management tool(s) and technology platforms.

  • Development and maintenance of RWP learning and evaluation metrics. Manage state partners and data vendor completion of Key Performance Indicator surveys and projects. 

  • Administration of RWP special projects, as capacity and expertise allows. 

  • Assist with semi-annual RWP convening logistics 

  • Various operational and administrative tasks as assigned 

  • All employees of NVF are required to complete timesheets

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.

 

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability  

  • Experience with project management tools like Asana, Airtable, or other platforms. 

  • Experience creating and maintaining detailed Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. 

  • Demonstrated experience managing up and laterally to various stakeholders. 

  • Basic understanding of financial management best practices, especially as applied to 501(c)(3) public charities and 501(c)(4) social welfare organizations. 

  • Experience working in issue campaigns, political campaigns, or non-profit operations. 

 

Valued and Non-Essential Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability 

  • Enthusiasm for public policy and politics in the mountain west, and ability to operate professionally and with discretion.

  • Experience with retreat/event planning and logistics.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $55,000 – 70,000 based on experience. 

 

Benefits: 

Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 120 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.
