JOB DESCRIPTION

Leaders We Deserve is a PAC and SuperPAC dedicated to electing the next generation of bold, young, progressive leaders to state legislatures and Congress. We collaborate directly with candidates on their campaign strategy, communication, fundraising, political outreach, and coalition building to help them run the best campaigns humanly possible and maximize their chance of winning. In the final months of their campaigns, we run hard-hitting independent expenditures on their behalf.  

 

LWD was co-founded by David Hogg, Parkland survivor and Gun Safety advocate, along with Kevin Lata, Congressman Maxwell Frost’s Campaign Manager and the 2022 Campaign Manager of the year.

Operations Director Overview: 

Leaders We Deserve is seeking a thoughtful and organized Operations Director to help take the organization to the next level. In this role, drive the development and execution of a smart, high-impact operations strategy that strengthens our organization, uplifts our candidates, and amplifies our mission to elect the next generation of progressive leaders.

 

A successful Leaders We Deserve employee will:

  • Extremely dedicated to electing young progressives: This person sees the virtue in electing progressive young people and believes they have a critical role to play in our party and in advancing the progressive agenda.  

 

Operations Director Responsibilities: 

  • Operations & Systems

  • Build and improve structures, workflows, and standard operating procedures to maximize organizational effectiveness

  • Implement and manage project management system

  • Maintain a clean inventory of our licenses, subscriptions, and renewal calendar 

  • Manage day to day office needs, including IT and information security policies, and supplies

  • Finance & Compliance

  • Coordinate with outside vendors to process payroll and administer staff benefits; including enrollment and maintenance

  • Administer the budget vs. actuals and cash flow in Warchest with oversight from the Executive Director

  • Manage compliance firm to oversee our cost-sharing and financial reporting for all of our legal entities and state-based PACs

  • HR & People Operations

  • Advise on staffing and organizational structure

  • Collaborate with hiring and people managers to oversee the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance reviews

  • Maintain and update employee handbook as policies develop and change

  • Respond to immediate and urgent HR issues as they arise, in collaboration with the Executive Director

  • Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Work with team leaders to identify, maintain, and compare goals and needs across departments

  • Work closely with the Executive Director and organization leadership to ensure alignment on the mission, vision and values of the organization 

  • Oversee Operations staff, who will assist you in these duties

 

Operations Director Qualifications: 

  • At least 2 years of experience in an operations role, with a proven track record as an Operations Director or equivalent leadership position.

  • Experience working in a nonprofit, PAC, campaign, or state party setting strongly preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Proven track record of being successful in a highly collaborative environment. 

  • The ability to distill complex ideas into compelling, simple communication.

  • Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities at a time. Proficient at delegating tasks to more junior staff when appropriate. 

 

Operations Director Compensation:

  • Salary: $110,000 - $140,000 annually, commensurate with experience. 

  • Healthcare: 100% employer paid platinum level healthcare, dental, and vision.

  • In December and January of 2025, LWD will also be observing a 4 week remote work and office closure period. This closure is revisited on a yearly basis and may not be offered every year.

  • Work From Home: 15 days per year

  • 12 week paid parental leave policy, with a service qualification.  

 

The Operations Director is a full-time, exempt position with an indefinite term that reports to the Executive Director.
