JOB DESCRIPTION

**Position Title: **Operations Manager

**Location: **Fully remote (Chicago preferred)

**Reports to: **President

**Status: **Part-time (.5 FTE), exempt

 

Position Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for finance, human resources and compliance functions for Project Unloaded. The position reports to the President and will work closely with third-party providers including PEO and accounting firms. Currently a half-time position, the role could expand in its responsibilities in the future.

 

About Project Unloaded

Project Unloaded works to prevent gun violence by educating, engaging, and empowering teens through cultural campaigns and community partnerships that share a simple message: guns make us less safe. We sit at the intersection of public health, youth engagement, social marketing and culture. Through large-scale, data-backed social media campaigns, teen-facing local programs, and an inspiring youth council, we combine young people’s love of social media with a gun violence prevention message that can reduce gun use and save lives.

 

Responsibilities and Tasks

Human Resources

● Oversee PEO in carrying out HR functions, including payroll, employee benefits, hiring, and orientation of employees

● Assist with implementation of annual employee reviews and work plans

● Coordinate employee training and professional development

● Help promote an organizational culture that encourages top performance and high morale.

 

Finance

● Oversee accounting: supervise contracted finance team

● Ensure adherence to non-profit accounting policies and practices

● Support preparation of annual audit

● Review monthly financial reports for accuracy and create additional reports as needed for grants, projects and Board meetings

● Present all relevant financial data for approval to President and Board Treasurer

● Manage contracting process with third party vendors

 

Compliance and Risk Management

● Work with outside law firm to ensure all business and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance thereof

● Manage renewal of insurance policies

 

Miscellaneous

● Working with President, help prepare materials for Board Meetings, and take minutes

● Maintain board minutes and other corporate records

● As directed, help to develop, implement and review operational policies and procedures

● Manage travel and logistics for meetings as needed

● Perform other duties as assigned

● Comply with Project Unloaded’s Minor Protection Policy

 

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

● At least 5-7 years of relevant work experience

● Experience and acumen in non-profit finance and organizational management

● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well on a team

● Excellent writing and editing skills

● Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment

● Extremely well organized, detail-oriented, and analytical

● Entrepreneurial spirit, strong problem-solving skills, and creative thinking skills

● Flexibility and an openness to evolving responsibilities

 

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $50,000 – 75,000 (Based on .5 FTE)

Benefits: Paid holiday, sick, and unlimited flexible time off.
