JOB DESCRIPTION

The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party is hiring a full-time statewide Organizing Director to manage our 2025 organizing program and organizers. This position is for a highly motivated, passionate, and talented organizer 

The Organizing Director will oversee the Minnesota DFL’s 2025 organizing program, which is focused on expanding the DFL base and training DFL activists to meet the moment.

This position reports to the Chief Organizing Officer and is based in St.Paul, MN.  We will accept applications on a rolling basis, with a preferred start date of May 19th.

 

Responsibilities:

  • **Write and Implement Organizing Plan: **In coordination with the Chief Organizing Officer, develop and implement an innovative off-year organizing program – meeting DFL activists and volunteers where they’re at. Creative activism and streams of engagement beyond just traditional door knocking and phone banking methods.

  • For example: Support DFL’ers as they become better online/digital communicators. Develop the guide for DFL’ers to host house parties or events to invite new supporters in. Develop localized plans with activists to hold GOP elected officials accountable, and support them as they host the rallies, protests, or events to call their unresponsive electeds. Build a list of local influencers, online or in person.

  • **Manage Organizing Staff: **Train, manage, coach, and support organizing staff as they implement the organizing program.

  • **Manage Training Programs: **Create staff and volunteer training materials, creating strong trainers out of all of the organizing staff. Develop the train the trainer curriculum for all aspects of the organizing program.

  • **Coordinate with Party Officers: **Work with local party officers to plan organizing events.

  • Coordinate with Other Departments: Work with other departments within the DFL such as communications, party affairs, operations, etc., to ensure the smooth running of interdepartmental organizing programs

  • **Goal Setting and Metric Management: **Create aspirational goals and coach organizers to success. Develop appropriate metrics and manage systems of accountability for staff and volunteers

  • **Reporting: **Analyze data to create and track progress.

  • **Additional Responsibilities: **Additional duties as assigned by Supervisor, Executive Director, or Chair

 

Requirements:

  • At least three cycles of political campaign experience, including at least two cycles managing paid staff – or equivalent experience with community organizing.

  • Experience training, supporting, and managing staff in an electoral or community organizing capacity

  • Proficiency using Votebuilder (VAN), Google Docs, Excel

  • Demonstrated commitment to electing DFL candidates up and down the ballot 

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle

  • Ability to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends

  • Cultural Competency – Able to build authentic relationships across lines of difference, such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, gender identity, citizenship status, or other identities. Understands how to take an inclusive lens into all aspects of work

 Preferred but not required:

  • Minnesota experience or ties to the state 

  • Experience organizing in both urban and rural settings

 

Compensation: Annual salary for this position, commensurate on experience is $80,000-$90,000. Employees of the DFL are paid on a bi-weekly basis and receive a competitive benefits package including health care and dental. This position runs through 2025, with an opportunity to remain on the campaign going into the 2026 election cycle.
