Position Overview
On behalf of Battleground New York and Battleground New York Action, Grossman Solutions is hiring a Paid Field Director to oversee and manage a statewide field campaign in six Congressional Districts across New York State. The program will include three distinct operations: voter registration, voter outreach, and GOTV activities. The Paid Field Director will manage a team of District-level Canvass Supervisors and hourly canvassers working in Congressional Districts 3, 4, 17, 18, 19, and 22.
The successful candidate will have significant experience in campaign field program management, designing door-to-door canvass programs, and leading a distributed staff. The Paid Field Director will work collaboratively with the Campaign Director, Data and Targeting Director, and the Operations Director to build the campaign from the ground up. This position will have two direct reports– a Voter Registration Director and Voter Contact Director. The Paid Field DIrector reports to the Campaign Director.

In 2024, New York will be a central battleground in the effort to win back the U.S. House of Representatives. Battleground New York, a new coalition of New York’s leading organizations, unions, and movements representing hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life, has come together to flip the House and take back the majority. It will be the largest field and organizing campaign in modern New York history.
Battleground New York Action is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization led by the Working Families Party, Planned Parenthood Empire States Acts, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, Communications Workers of the America District 1, Indivisible, AFSCME, New York State Nurses Association, and 32BJ SEIU.
Job Responsibilities
Designing and implementing a statewide canvass and site-based voter registration program
Overseeing the hiring, management, and training of a large staff of paid canvassers
Working with the Data and Targeting Director to design voter registration and voter outreach universes
Working with the Operations Director to open and manage field offices, perform human resources duties, and manage the day-to-day operations of each office
Developing appropriate metrics and managing systems of accountability for Supervisors and Canvassers
Analyzing data and modeling to create and track progress in voter contact universes and improve the field program
Leveraging innovative voter contact tools and integrating them into the field plan
Implementing quality control measures to ensure the integrity of the work
Additional duties as assigned by the Campaign Director
Qualifications
8+ years of experience, including multiple cycles of directing grassroots outreach programs, leading voter-targeted field operations, or managing campaigns
Experience managing large, diverse field teams, including managing remotely
Experience working with underrepresented and/or historically marginalized communities in campaign or organizing settings
Ability to use data to inform strategy, strengthen the campaign operation and solve problems
Deep understanding of voter contact tools including, but not limited to, VAN, EveryAction, peer-to-peer tools, etc
Ability and willingness to work a demanding campaign schedule, including nights and weekends
A licensed driver with reliable access to a vehicle
Budget management experience is a plus
Experience in New York is a plus
Location
The Paid Field Director must be based in New York State. The Field Director will be expected to travel throughout the region to support the field offices as needed.
Compensation
The pay range for this position is $8,500 to $10,500, to be set based on qualifications, experience, and location, and benefits include a health insurance stipend.
