Do you want to ensure that progressive organizations have access to the best possible data, technology, and technical expertise? We know movement organizing and advocacy are more urgent than ever and many organizations and activists cannot easily access the tools to scale their work. 

Launched in 2018, The Movement Cooperative (TMC) is a nonprofit founded with the aim of creating a cooperative community addressing these structural challenges. Currently, our membership stands at nearly 80 national member organizations, 13 state-based member organizations, and over 1400 affiliate member organizations covered under our licenses. We leverage the collective purchasing power of our membership to secure cooperatively held data and technology licenses shared across membership and invest in common infrastructure like technical staff to support our members in their work. TMC is a member cooperative -- our board is primarily elected by and made up of representatives from our member organizations.

Position Overview

Do you want to support a mission-driven organization that aligns your philosophical and professional passions? The HR Generalist is a self-starter, fueled by integrity, and able to manage their own workflow. This is a regular, part-time position, we expect the HR Generalist to work 25 hours per week during core business hours.

While this is a regular, part-time position, the HR Generalist will be an essential member of the People & Culture team. They will support the People & Culture team ensuring smooth and efficient HR operations. The HR Generalist will have an administrative focus on important functions of the employee lifecycle such as recruiting, payroll, compensation, benefits, and smooth support in the implementation of our new CBA. Responsibilities

  • Handle all administrative tasks for onboarding and offboarding, including new hire orientation, entering data into HR information systems, and auditing for accuracy and compliance

  • Aid in the administration and interface with TMC’s PEO

  • Aid in the smooth implementation and administration of TMC’s CBA 

  • Aid in the administration of benefits, including open enrollment

  • Aid the Sr Program Manager, HR in biweekly payroll meetings 

  • Partner with the Sr Program Manager, HR and hiring managers to administer efficient recruiting and interviewing processes and improve candidate experience.

  • Maintenance of employee records, staff welcome decks, and staff bios. 

  • Assist in the upkeep of employee handbook, employee directory, and organizational chart

  • Proactively participate in People & Culture team 

  • Provide support to the Director of People & Culture and the Sr Program Manager, HR, as needed

  • Other duties as assigned that support the overall mission of People & Culture and TMC.

Qualifications

Skills

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources

  • Desire to support a progressive organization’s framework

  • Knowledge and experience in human resources work including employee lifecycle administration (hiring, onboarding, retention, development, offboarding, separation); payroll administration; HRIS management; and employment law compliance

  • Strong project management with resourceful and agile problem-solving aptitude

  • Strong proficiency in project management tools, like Asana 

  • Experience working in nonprofit and/or progressive values-driven organizations

  • Experience working with unionized employees and administering union contract

  • Impeccable administrative and organizational skills with strong attention to detail

  • Excellent ethics and ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality

  • Time management and ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

  • Proficient with HR information and payroll administration systems, electronic filing and communication systems, and comfortable learning new technical systems as needed

  • Proficient with applicant tracking systems (ATS), like Greenhouse

  • Ability to stay current on applicable state and federal labor laws and systems

  • Ability to maintain confidential records and communications

  • Human-centered approach to HR practices and procedures

  • Ability to assist in the formulation or revision of practices, procedures, and policies

  • Knowledge of equity concepts, language, and practices

  • Experience working in a fully remote workplace

  • Experience with HR policy development and implementation

  • Experience with collective bargaining compliance and CBA implementation

  • Familiarity with progressive movements and the advocacy space

  • Current HR Certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP)

Physical Requirements 

  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer

Location Requirements 

  • While TMC’s workplace is remote, we require staff members to reside in and work in the continental United States.
