The FDP Party Affairs Department manages the committee work of the Florida Democratic Party, and aims to empower grassroots party leadership by connecting local officers with state party resources, including program and policy updates, trainings and documentation, and guidance on rules and procedure. As the party’s official record keeper, the office maintains the FDP’s membership lists and coordinates archival storage of the party’s records. Additionally, Party Affairs is responsible for meetings of the State Executive Committee, State Central Committee, and Standing Committees. Leading into State and National Conventions, the department is responsible for planning and carrying out the delegate selection process.
The manager of Party Affairs must be extremely organized and motivated. The position requires significant administrative work, including updating party officer contact lists, drafting updates and correspondence from the State Party, and connecting leaders from around the state with the information they need. The manager can also expect to spend a significant amount of time communicating directly with party leaders throughout the state as the first point of contact for DEC and caucus leadership at the FDP. By utilizing strong organization and excellent communication, the Party Affairs manager will successfully provide proactive communication to party officers throughout the state regarding state party programming, connect party leaders with the resources and information they need quickly and effectively, while managing ongoing departmental work.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Serve as FDP point of contact for democratic organizations and officers throughout the state;
• Manage and maintain database of elected party leaders;
• Advise affiliate organizations on policy, procedure, and Bylaws;
• Plan and facilitate committee meetings and support the planning of annual statewide party conferences;
• Oversee committee meeting calendar and manage state event schedule;
• Prepare meeting notices and documentation for members;
• Provide training and present updates for democratic leaders and organizations;
• Draft weekly newsletter for party leadership.
Qualifications and Skills:
• A work ethic that is detail-oriented and self-motivated;
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills;
• An interest in and understanding of Florida Democratic Party rules and procedures;
• Familiarity with FDP Charter & Bylaws a plus;
• Familiarity with Robert’s Rules a plus;
• Experience using G-Suite and Constant Contact a plus;
• Familiarity with virtual meeting administration including Zoom and Zoom Webinar
• Willingness to work outside of typical business hours, including nights and weekends, in order to complete projects;
• A minimum of 1 cycle of political experience or 2+ years of work experience in a professional setting;
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience;
• Proven success in managing projects and individuals;
• Experience working with people or in customer service;
• Ability to speak multiple languages a plus;
• A strong commitment to Democratic ideals and issues.
Logistics
• This position is based in Florida
• Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, reliable mode of transportation and the ability to travel extensively at times throughout the state for more than a day at a time
• Must be able to travel often for several days at a time
