JOB DESCRIPTION

Mothering Justice, a national non-profit dedicated to empowering Mamavists, community members, and allies, is seeking a passionate Coalitions Director to lead and grow the BIPOC ALAANA Coalition. Reporting directly to the Founding Executive Director, this role is central to fostering collaboration, advancing policy advocacy, and mobilizing resources to drive systemic change.

 

The Coalitions Director will recruit and engage coalition members, research and develop policy recommendations, and design and implement impactful campaign strategies. This role will also oversee legislative lobbying efforts, maintain meeting minutes, track progress toward grant deliverables, and cultivate relationships with government agencies and partner organizations. A successful candidate will bring expertise in coalition management, fundraising, and budgeting, ensuring the coalition’s efforts are aligned with Mothering Justice’s mission and values.

 

The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader with a strong understanding of advocacy, policy development, and grassroots organizing. They possess excellent relationship-building skills, a proven ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, and the vision to inspire collective action that advances equity and justice for BIPOC communities.

 

The Coalitions Director will operate in a hybrid environment, balancing remote and in-person responsibilities. This role involves substantial computer-based tasks, including communication, data management, and coordinating coalition activities. In-person engagement will be vital during coalition meetings, advocacy events, and community gatherings, which may occur at various venues. The position may require occasional travel for legislative advocacy, stakeholder meetings, and networking opportunities. The work environment is dynamic and collaborative, requiring flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to excel independently and within a team-oriented setting.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Social Work, Political Science, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (preferred).

  • 3–5 years of coalition management, advocacy, or policy experience.

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, including grant writing or donor cultivation.

  • Proven budgeting experience, with the ability to track and manage coalition expenses.

  • Experience working with government agencies and diverse community stakeholders.

  • Understanding of policy development, grassroots advocacy, and legislative processes.

  • Proficiency in coalition-building strategies, stakeholder engagement, and campaign planning.

  • Strong project management skills, including tracking progress and meeting grant deliverables.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
