JOB DESCRIPTION

Stop the Ban (STB) is a statewide coalition of organizations and concerned citizens working to defeat a Constitutional Amendment that would overturn the reproductive freedom ballot measure passed in 2024. The proposed ban addresses multiple unrelated subjects, banning abortion and health care for transgender youth as well as changing court processes designed to make it harder to protect reproductive freedom.

 

The Political Director will report to the Campaign Manager. They will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, growing the campaign's coalition, and leading political outreach efforts across the state. STB seeks to run this campaign in a way that not only leads us to victory but also builds long-term grassroots power and infrastructure in Missouri. Responsibilities:

 

  • Strategic Planning:

  • Develop a comprehensive political outreach plan, including clear goals, timelines, and metrics for success. 

  • Stakeholder and Endorsement Management:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for endorsers and allies, providing campaign updates and identifying ways to engage and leverage different groups' capacity and expertise.

  • Grow and manage the campaign's endorsement slate.

  • Maintain positive relationships and regular communication with labor, faith-based, issue-based, and constituency-based organizations across Missouri. 

  • Represent the campaign at community events and meetings.

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure endorsement data is leveraged for volunteer engagement and broader campaign initiatives.

  • Be ready to serve as a convener of difficult conversations and solve problems between the campaign and allied groups and if unable to do so escalate appropriately.

  • Coalition Management:

  • Manage and facilitate the Steering Committee.

  • Collaborate with coalition members to develop joint strategies, coordinate actions, and leverage collective resources.

  • Provide direct support to keep coalition members informed, engaged, and working toward shared goals.

  • Ensure coalition organizations are up to date about campaign finance requirements related to political work in alignment with the campaign.

  • Manage and support partners towards supporting other campaign goals such as identifying and recruiting spokespeople or storytellers.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collect, analyze, and evaluate data related to political outreach, endorsement efforts, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Prepare reports detailing the impact of political activities, including progress achieved, challenges faced, and recommendations for improvement.

  • Prepare an end of campaign report on the stakeholder and endorsement programs, including evaluation and reporting of metrics, lessons learned, and strategies to further build the movement for reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy in Missouri.

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • At least 3 years experience in political campaigns, nonprofits, or coalition work.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders, including principals and staffers.

  • Collaborative spirit, a willingness and ability to work with a team to reach goals together.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

  • Detail-oriented, with exceptional organizational and project management skills.

  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and learn quickly.

  • Commitment to anti-racism, accessible abortion services, reproductive freedom, and the liberation of the entire LGBTQ+ community from discrimination and oppression.

  • Missouri ties and knowledge of Missouri’s donor landscape strongly preferred.
