Role Overview:
The campaign is interested in hiring a contractor to serve as a Political Manager responsible for engaging in outreach to community leaders, elected officials, political organizations and organized labor. This role would require 25-30 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
● Lead outreach to community leaders, elected officials, organizations, and labor unions across Michigan, with an expectation of a minimum of 10 - 15 hours of outreach per week.
● Manage the candidate’s political call-time and organize political call-time lists.
● Oversee endorsement processes with organizations and labor unions, including: drafting candidate questionnaires and managing endorsement process follow-up with stakeholders.
● Assist with engaging our network of endorsing organizations, community leaders, elected officials and labor unions.
● Help strategize with political events and travel as well as support the build for events.
● Other campaign needs as required
Qualifications (Required):
● Established network and relationships with political and community leaders in Michigan.
● Must have transportation to attend events as needed
● Proficiency with Excel and Google Drive
● Willingness to work irregular hours including nights and weekends.
● Superior written and verbal communication skills
● Ability to learn new skills and take on new challenges, with a desire to learn and a willingness to ask questions
● Ability to balance between competing priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment while maintaining exceptional organization and attention to detail
● Commitment to electing Abdul El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate
● Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence – the awareness, knowledge and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant and productive ways
● Personal and professional commitment to promoting and investing in cross-cultural skills and awareness related to individuals from broad backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability
Qualifications (Preferred):
● Two campaign cycles of previous experience in Michigan working in community relations, political engagement, or campaign management.
● Experience directly managing/staffing a principal is a significant plus
