JOB DESCRIPTION

The Haley Stevens for Senate Campaign is seeking a ** Press Assistant** to join our growing team. Our campaign, based in Detroit, MI, is quickly scaling and this position will be critical to executing a successful communications strategy. 

 

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, a strong writer, and able to balance multiple competing priorities to support the Communications Department. 

 

The ** Press Assistant's** duties will include: 

  • Compiling and distributing daily clips and media monitoring

  • Maintaining deliverables such as department planning tools, talkers/surrogate lists, and local, national, and constituency press lists

  • Drafting written materials such as press releases, memos, talking points, op-eds and letters to the editor

  • Researching issue coverage, reporters, and press outlets

  • Brainstorming creative tactics to further the communications department’s short and long term goals

  • Other responsibilities as needed to support the communications department

 

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • A positive attitude and a self-starter mentality

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized while working on multiple projects with varying deadlines

  • Previous experience in Michigan or political communications is preferred but not required

 

Compensation: 

  • Salary: $5,000 monthly

  • Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance available at no premium.

  • Leave: Paid time off will be available per campaign policy.

  • Hours: This position’s schedule will vary based on the needs of the campaign and point in the cycle, and is likely to require evening and weekend work over the course of the election cycle.
