The Press Secretary for Phil Weiser for Colorado is a key member of the team, responsible for executing the campaign’s message strategy and supporting the earned media plan across all platforms. This role focuses on writing, media list building, rapid response support, press logistics, content coordination, and tracking coverage—working closely with campaign leadership and consultants.
Strategic Messaging & Earned Media
Monitor breaking news and social chatter; pull clips, draft quick statements, and route for approvals; maintain a daily clips digest and coverage log.
Collaborate with senior staff, consultants, and the candidate to develop messaging priorities and maintain message discipline across all platforms and audiences.
Draft, edit, and manage the release of communications materials including press releases, statements, speeches, talking points, newsletters, and op-eds.
Serve as a campaign spokesperson, including managing inbound media inquiries and preparing the candidate and team for interviews.
Support a proactive and responsive earned media program—identifying story opportunities, pitching to reporters, coordinating press conferences and other open-press events, and developing relationships with national and Colorado-based press and influencers.
Rapid Response & Crisis Comms
Monitor political developments, news cycles, and social media to identify opportunities for rapid response and message amplification.
Draft and deploy real-time responses that elevate the candidate’s message.
Collaborate with research, digital, and field teams to ensure aligned and timely messaging in high-pressure moments.
Social Media & Content Oversight
Partner with Digital to align copy, visuals, and timing across platforms; help draft short social captions and coordinate cross-posting when press goes live.
Upload approved content to the website/newsroom and share internally for amplification.
Candidate Preparation & Visibility
Prepare briefings for the candidate for interviews, forums, and public events.
Accompany the candidate to media and public-facing events to staff and support.

Experience
2+ years in communications, press, digital, or campaigns (internships and campus media count).
Colorado experience a plus.
Skills
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Strong news judgment, rapid response instincts, and political acumen.
Proficiency with Google Suite and communications tools; familiarity with media monitoring a plus.
