JOB DESCRIPTION

Campaign: Raj Goyle for New York State Comptroller

Location: New York City (In-person)

Type: Full-time, Campaign hours (evenings and weekends required)

Compensation: $5,000 - $10,000 /month (commensurate with experience) + health care stipend

Timeline: Immediate start through November 2026

About the Campaign

Raj Goyle is a tech entrepreneur, former legislator, and progressive reformer running to become the next New York State Comptroller. This campaign is a fast-paced, high-stakes primary and general election challenge focused on transforming New York’s chief financial office into a true public watchdog.

Our platform centers on bold action: auditing corporate utilities to lower energy costs, investing the state’s $300 billion pension fund into affordable housing, and divesting from fossil fuels and surveillance tech like Palantir. We are building a modern, data-driven, and diverse coalition to make history by electing New York’s first South Asian statewide official.

We are seeking a relentless, sharp, and media-savvy ** Press Secretary** to serve as the primary conduit between the campaign and the press. The ideal candidate knows the New York political media landscape inside and out, thrives under pressure, and can turn complex financial policy into punchy, populist messaging.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Media Relations & Pitching: Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for New York City, Albany, and national press. Build and maintain strong relationships with political reporters, columnists, and editors.

  • Rapid Response: Monitor the daily news cycle and opponent movements. Draft and execute aggressive rapid-response strategies, press releases, statements, and Twitter/X threads.

  • On-the-Trail Press Management: Travel statewide with the candidate as needed to manage press logistics at rallies, town halls, and editorial board meetings.

  • Content Creation: Draft talking points, op-eds, press kits, and briefing memos for the candidate and senior staff.

  • Surrogate Booking: Coordinate and pitch interviews for campaign surrogates and high-profile endorsers.

  • Message Alignment: Work closely with the Digital, Policy, and Research teams to ensure a unified, cohesive message across all paid, earned, and organic media.

Qualifications & Core Competencies

  • Experience: 1–4 cycles of on-the-ground political communications experience (statewide or New York media market experience is highly preferred).

  • NYC / Albany Media Literacy: A deep understanding of the New York press corps, political insider newsletters, and the mechanics of Albany and NYC politics.

  • Impeccable Writing: Ability to write clean, persuasive copy on extremely tight deadlines. You should be able to distill complex fiscal policy (pension funds, utility audits) into kitchen-table economic issues.

  • Thick Skin & Sharp Instincts: Ability to handle adversarial press environments and pivot quickly during a fast-moving news cycle.

  • Campaign Grit: A self-starter mentality with the endurance for irregular hours, weekend work, and the intense rhythm of a competitive statewide race.

To Apply

Please submit your resume, a brief cover letter, and two diverse writing samples (e.g., a press release, an op-ed, or a rapid-response memo) to ** liz.finneran@rajgoyle.com** with the subject line**"Press Secretary – [Your Name]"**.
