JOB DESCRIPTION

The Elect Katie Hobbs campaign is seeking a full-time Press Secretary to join our communications team through the 2026 election cycle. The Press Secretary will play an integral role in developing and executing the campaign’s earned media strategy, managing press operations, and driving proactive messaging that reaches voters across Arizona.

 

This position will work closely with the Communications Director and senior campaign staff to shape the public narrative of one of the most closely watched gubernatorial campaigns in the country. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, creative thinker, and collaborative team player

who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about electing Katie Hobbs and fighting for Arizona families.

 

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage communications strategies for major announcements, media rollouts, and events.

  • Draft press releases, talking points, op-eds, memos, and other communications materials.

  • Pitch stories, interviews, and events to state and national media.

  • Prepare surrogates, storytellers, or principals for media interviews and events by drafting talking points and providing background materials.

  • Build and maintain relationships with members of the press.

  • Staff campaign events and coordinate press logistics.

  • Monitor the news cycle and craft rapid-response statements and messaging.

  • Coordinate and distribute press materials to surrogates, stakeholders, and partners.

  • Provide on-the-record support and assist in fielding media inquiries.

  • Perform additional communications assignments as needed to advance campaign goals.

 

Requirements

  • Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-pacedenvironment.

  • Experience or familiarity with press, political campaigns, or communications strategy.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with reporters andstakeholders.

  • A team-oriented mindset with a strong work ethic and willingness to take initiative.

  • Access to a cell phone, a laptop, a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in campaigns, journalism, or public affairs.

  • Familiarity with Arizona politics and media landscape.

  • Experience working with Spanish-language media.

  • Experience crafting rapid-response or earned media strategies.

  • Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
