Rob Sand’s campaign for Iowa governor is seeking a Press Secretary to join our Communications team. Responsibilities include drafting press releases and other written materials; tracking incoming press requests; staffing the candidate for key events, interviews, and media appearances; and assisting the Communications Director with executing the campaign’s overall communications strategy.
The ideal candidate will have excellent writing, proofreading, and communications skills; previous communications or campaign experience; a strong work ethic; the ability to work well with a team. Iowa ties or experience working in the state preferred but not required.
Job Responsibilities:
Work alongside the Communications Director to execute communications strategy and tactics in line with the campaign’s overall message.
Draft written materials such as press releases, media advisories, talking points, op-eds, memos, etc.
Track incoming press requests.
Build and maintain relationships with in-state press.
Draft key messaging guidance for campaign allies and surrogates.
Assist with other communications duties as needed.
Qualifications:
One cycle of campaign experience or equivalent
Strong written and vertical communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to meet tight deadlines
Work well in a group in and across departments
Capacity and willingness to work nights and weekends in line with campaign schedule
