This is a new position that will work closely with the Executive Director and a small team to manage our advocacy and educational efforts.
Primary responsibilities include:
Working with partner organizations to develop and pilot a program for collaborating with Texas university groups to engage college students in advocating for gun violence prevention;
Building relationships with key partners and stakeholders around the state, including gun owners, medical professionals, and survivors of gun violence;
Developing materials, presenting information and managing initiatives to raise awareness of policy solutions to prevent gun tragedies, including promoting powerful storytelling campaigns;
Tracking engagement and metrics of programs and initiatives;
Working with the team to represent Texas Gun Sense at events and in online communications;
Potentially overseeing the onboarding of additional staff, as the budget allows.
What we’re looking for:
You have 3-5 years of experience in program management, community engagement, and/or advocacy;
You have strong written and communication skills and experience with public speaking;
You are someone who takes initiative, works independently, and is collaborative;
You can represent the organization publicly and build relationships with a range of partners and stakeholders;
You have strong judgment, are organized, and can be flexible in a changing environment;
You act with sensitivity toward victims and survivors of gun violence and can work with individuals with differing viewpoints and lived experiences;
You have a firm commitment to preventing gun violence in all its forms.
