JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Grand Rapids, Flint/Pontiac, Detroit

Our families came to Michigan from all over Mexico and Latin America. They sacrificed everything so we

could live the American dream, generations of seeking a better future. We know what we deserve:

access to health care, education, and protection of our right to vote. Let’s celebrate our collective

resilience by advocating for the future we see possible, the one we want to build for ourselves.

Who We Are

MI Poder is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, social welfare and civic engagement organization serving the Latinx

population in Michigan. Our purpose is to strengthen the Michigan Latinx voice and leadership capacity

to mobilize our constituents and increase participation in the democratic process. We develop and

advocate for legislation, regulations, and government programs to improve the Michigan Latinx

community’s opportunities, growth, and investment.

What We Need

MI Poder is currently seeking 3 dynamic individuals to serve as Regional Canvass Managers to implement

MI Poder’s field program during the 2024 election season. This position plays a critical role in informing

and mobilizing Latinx voters across the state of Michigan. We are looking for three strategic and

innovative thinkers to join our team immediately and will be accepting applications on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities of the Regional Canvass Manager include:

● Lead the growth of the MI Poder community by building genuine community relationships,

attending community events, and supporting regional team management.

● Assist leadership with recruiting and hiring a local field team.

● Prepare, train, and supervise a local field team on political strategy and relevant issues.

o Lead weekly field team check-ins, including team progress updates, goal alignment, and

issue interventions.

o Implement training and staff development opportunities including team bonding and

1:1s with Voter Contact Organizers, Canvassers, and Volunteers.

o Manage the entry, accuracy, and integrity of field Canvassers and Volunteer data in

America Votes.

● Work to execute daily, weekly, and monthly voter engagement regional goals and metrics set

forth by MI Poder leadership designed to build power and mobilize Michigan Latinx voters.

● Travel within the assigned region to help implement and oversee voter contact programs.

● Contribute to other organizational initiatives, including cross-functional projects.

● Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Who You Are

We recognize that no one person will embody every quality and attribute that defines success for this

position. Examples of the professional and personal abilities of a successful candidate include:

● At least 1-2 years of experience working in a competitive field program, electoral campaigns,

progressive politics, or advocacy. An understanding of community mobilization efforts and how

to navigate those efforts with clear, achievable plans of action.

● At least 1-2 years of experience in a management position with an ability to lead, inspire, and

maintain cooperative working relationships and accountability with a diverse group of

stakeholders, staff, and volunteers.

● A deep interest in strengthening the Michigan Latinx voice to build community power and

greater social and civic opportunities.

● Knowledge of and demonstrated cultural competency of the Michigan Latinx community.

● A natural sense of curiosity about people and the ability to build rapport. Experience initiating

meaningful conversations with community members and fostering open communication with

unfamiliar audiences like volunteers.

● Experience collaborating with organizations and people on achieving a shared goal.

● Proficiency with Google Sheets/Excel, America Votes, MiniVan, Dialers and other voter

engagement software programs.

● Ability to think and work creatively and critically.

● Excellent communication skills, with a strong ability to tailor messages to resonate with diverse

audiences.

● Bilingual English/Spanish preferred for community and volunteer outreach.

● Able to fulfill the physical mobility and strength demands of the Regional Canvass Manager

which includes significant standing and walking, lifting up to 25 lbs, and climbing stairs.

Reasonable accommodations will be considered.

Studies have shown that women, BIPOC, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ individuals are less

likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every single one of the qualifications as described

in a job description. MI Poder is a non-discriminatory workplace and equal opportunity employer

committed to building an organization reflective of the community it serves. You are strongly

encouraged to apply, even if you don't believe you meet every one of the qualifications described.
