About Empire State Voices:

Empire State Voices is a multi-year, statewide campaign dedicated to amplifying the voices of everyday working New Yorkers. ESV is fighting for economic policies that make life affordable for constituents and holding members of Congress in New York accountable for failing to deliver for working families. The current majority in Congress has made their priorities clear: They’re choosing the wealthy, corporations, and extremist political antics, over the working people in their districts. While we struggle to pay high costs on the health care, prescription drugs, housing and utility costs we need to get by, our representatives are choosing to side with big corporations and the wealthy. Empire State Voices is here to hold them accountable and fight for New York working families.

About the position:

We are looking for a strategic Regional Organizing Director to organize the outreach and events program in New York’s 22nd Congressional District that will mobilize grassroots and grasstops organizations, community leaders, and constituents on key issues to hold Congressman Brandon Williams accountable.

The Regional Organizing Director understands organizing strategy and tactics to garner news media attention, takes a creative approach to recruiting constituents and key messengers, and can communicate effectively with various stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Position is remote but must be based in New York State or be willing to relocate.

As Regional Organizing Director, you will:

  • Collaborate with the rest of the Empire State Voices team to design and execute a successful community outreach program, including quickly mobilizing around rapid response moments and identifying storytellers and local leaders in the community willing to speak out.

  • Maintain a drumbeat of accountability tactics and actions in your district, from press conferences to rallies and town halls, to garner press coverage, including overseeing all logistical needs.

  • Recruit constituents who are impacted by our issues and comfortable sharing their personal stories to be part of programming and media opportunities.

  • Use your creativity to utilize the best and most effective offline and online organizing tactics in order to build and maintain relationships with not just diverse communities, but also partners.

  • Regularly, often daily, post on social media platforms to hold Rep. Williams accountable, amplify personal stories, and spread the word about your organizing activities in collaboration with the Communications Director.

  • Crowd build for events in the district.

  • Track and monitor news and plan rapid response actions.

  • Support outreach to members of Congress and other officials, local advocacy organizations, key stakeholders, and other non-profit organizations on the district level.

  • Support press, additional social media, website, and other digital programs for your district as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About you:

  • You are proactive and have exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • You are an effective communicator capable of coordinating between various stakeholders and making policy and politics relatable and accessible to working people.

  • You are passionate about progressive politics and are committed to working towards more inclusive and equitable public policy.

  • You have prior field / organizing experience working on a political or issue-based campaign.

  • You have experience working with communities of color and the working class.

  • You are calm under pressure and nimble in a changing campaign environment.

  • You have experience building and recruiting for in-person events that garner earned media attention.

  • You have an inclusive, community-first, and deeply human approach to organizing.

  • You are willing and able to travel.

In addition, it would be a bonus if you:

  • Have a familiarity with progressive economic issues and framing.

  • Have a connection to the state, the district and its communities, such as having lived or worked there.

  • Have worked on Congressional electoral or issue advocacy campaigns.

Benefits and compensation:

Salary range: $60,000 - $65,000 / year
