We strive to increase civic participation in rural East Texas through civic engagement, organizing, and leadership cultivation.
Job Description:
This position is grant-funded and only expected to run from August 7th to December 15th.
Target Area: East Texas, with a focus on (but not limited to):
Smith,
Cherokee,
Gregg,
Nacogdoches, and
Wood County.
Target Start Date: August 7th, 2026
Target End Date: December 15th, 2026, with an opportunity to extend should funding allow.
The Rural Civic Engagement Organizer will work with Este Poder’s Co-Executive Director of Programs and Communications to implement and support grassroots organizing strategies in various ETX counties. They will focus on community outreach, high school expansion, student fellow leadership, engagement, and civic education in predominantly rural communities of color.
Responsibilities:
Support Este Poder Student Fellow(s) with ongoing tabling and campus-wide events.
Maintain and expand new high school partnerships and foster a sense of long-term civic engagement alongside teacher and student relationships.
Develop volunteer, organizer, and student fellow skills and leadership through relational organizing and expanding the Empower application.
Coordinate volunteers based on counties, election cycles, and mobilization efforts.
Lead text banks, civic classes, community tabling, and canvassing efforts, including script creation, volunteer recruitment, and shift management for volunteers.
Ensure proper handling of data metrics of all mobilization efforts. (ex. Voter registrations, door knocking, voter guides distributed, text messages sent, calls made, conversations, partnerships, student chapters held).
Maintain and build out Este Poder CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system VAN.
Lead and enhance Este Poder’s leadership training curriculum.
Work collaboratively with the staff to develop strategy, standardized processes, and meet the organizational goals.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
No specific degree or type of work is needed. In general, candidates will:
Reside in East Texas (Preference in Tyler and its surrounding towns).
Demonstrate commitment to organizing in communities of color.
Must obtain or already be a Voter Deputy Registrar in the following counties: Smith, Cherokee, Gregg, Nacogdoches, and Wood within the first two weeks of hire.
Access to a laptop, phone, and transportation.
Willingness to use personal vehicles for work-related travel and ability to travel to the aforementioned counties.
Familiarity with federal, state, and local election politics and rural East Texas communities' cultural and social dynamics.
Experience in volunteer management, leadership development, or event organizing
Willingness to work a flexible schedule and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfort with digital tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Mobilize, Zoom, etc.) and willingness to learn new platforms.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across remote and in-person settings
English and Spanish fluency required.
Compensation:
$22 hour full- time/ non-exempt
